The trick to lying is to keep your tall tale simple and above all... believable. However, no matter how good a lie may be, you're always going to get caught out in the end, especially if you're trying to lie to the police!
The situation unfolded when Florida police were responding to a domestic violence report on Sunday morning.
Reports indicate that a woman had called 911 after a man had shoved her to the ground and then threatened her with a firearm, according to the Daily Mail.
The responding officers were informed by the woman who placed the call that Gelin had stashed illegal firearms in the trunk of a Porsche SUV.
The authorities eventually located a grey Porsche SUV wich was registered to Gelin's name in Port St Lucie.
Once the authorities approached the vehicle, Gelin was asked for "consent to search the Porsche SUV, which he consented", according to the affidavit which was procured by The Smoking Gun.
Inside the vehicle's trunk, the authorities found a black Glock 21 pistol, a black semi-automatic rifle, and a Kevlar vest.
The authorities asked Gelin why he was in possession of the items, to which Gelin replied that "he had sold the Porsche to his cousin John Wick".
John Wick, for those who don't know, is the name of the stoic assassin played by Keanu Reeves in the John Wick film series. And, if you didn't know that, then where on Earth have you been living?
Yes, it may come as a surprise to some, but it came to pass that the 27-year-old Floridian was not in fact related to the fictional assassin portrayed by the inimitable Keanu Reeves.
Gelin admitted to the authorities that he had lied about the name, but would not give the authorities his cousin's real name.
According to the Daily Mail, Gelin was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Ultimately, Gelin was held in jail on a $3,500 bond.
Images were discovered showing Gelin sporting the Kevlar vest on Gelin's Facebook page, the Daily Mail reports. However, the images have since been removed from his profile.
Hopefully, Gelin's days of possessing dangerous firearms are at an end.
