10+ Celebs Who Prefer Their Small Homes Despite Their Millions

It's fair to assume that one of the first things people do when they become wealthy is to buy their dream home — and more often than not, that dream home is a mansion.

While there's nothing wrong with enjoying the finer things in life, some celebrities, much to my surprise, prefer to live somewhere quaint and unassuming!

If I were a wealthy celebrity, I can say with absolute certainty that I would want the biggest, most outrageously luxurious mansion that the Hollywood Hills have to offer.

And it would absolutely need to have an infinity pool in the backyard.

But hey, that's just me! Some celebrities actually prefer smaller homes despite what they can afford.

1. Robert Pattinson.

Six months after his very messy split from Kristen Stewart, whom he shared a 4,026 square foot home with in Los Angeles, Robert Pattinson packed up and invested in a $2,176,500 bungalow.

It's less than half the size of the house he shared with Kristen.

2. Lena Dunham.

The creator and leading lady of the hit series, Girls, Lena Dunham, could no doubt afford to live in the lap of luxury.

But for quite some time, she was living in a 800-square-foot Brooklyn Heights property that she purchased in 2012.

3. Vincent Kartheiser.

Mad Men star, Vincent Kartheiser, used to live in a quaint, 500 square foot — yes, 500 square foot — cabin.

His moving situation has been a little different than most other celebs (but thankfully, nothing too awful).

He bought it mistakenly at a time that it was undergoing a remodel.

He was eventually able to sell it, but not for much more than the price he originally purchased it for.

Either way, we're sure he's living his best life right now, regardless of where he lives!

4. Elijah Wood.

Elijah Wood — or as far as I'm concerned, Frodo from Lord Of The Rings — is a simple man who doesn't want for much!

He purchased his home in Austin, Texas in 2013 for just over $1 million. The Victorian-style home is 3,200 square feet.

5. Mark Zuckerberg.

It's no secret that Mark Zuckerberg is disgustingly wealthy and could certainly afford any lifestyle he wants.

He is one of the richest people in the world, but that doesn't mean he likes to be showy about all his cash!

Nonetheless, he lives in a $7 million property.

While that is definitely pricey by most standards, considering that Mark is worth about $76.4 billion, $7 million seems like a drop in the bucket!

Needless to say, he is truly living a good life.

6. Deion Sanders.

NFL Hall of Famer, Deion Sanders, owns a home in Prosper, Texas that is well within his means.

But he has filled it with luxury items and features that you'd more likely find in a mansion, like a home theater, barbershop, two-lane bowling alley, two swimming pools, and a rooftop terrace.

7. Tori Spelling.

Beverly Hills 90210 alum, Tori Spelling, her husband, and their children live in a humble, rural bungalow —nowhere near Beverly Hills.

It is there where they grow their own fruit, vegetables, and even own a couple of barnyard animals!

8. Warren Buffett.

Contrary to having an estimated value of $70.5 billion, Warren Buffett still lives in the same house he bought back in 1957 for around $31,500. It is now valued at approximately $600,000.

His home is located in Omaha, the city where he was born and raised, despite having the means to live literally anywhere in the world.

9. Tom Shadyac.

American writer, director, and producer of films such as Bruce Almighty, Ace Ventura, Liar, Liar, and The Nutty Professor, Tom Shadyac, earned big bucks in the late '90s and early 2000s.

You might not know him by name, but his net worth is pretty big.

He invested in a 17,000 square foot mansion.

However, he later sold his home and moved into a trailer park instead!

While that may not be every person's dream in terms of living situation, he seems to be doing just fine!

10. Chris Daughtry.

American Idol star, singer-songwriter Chris Daughtry, purchased a $690,000 home in North Carolina back in 2006 — following his fourth-place win of that year's season of American Idol.

He, his wife, and his four children lived in that 3,782-square-foot space for about five years before it was put up for sale.

11. Kesha

Between 2014 and 2015, at quite possibly the peak of her career, Kesha lived in a 1,400 square foot, hippie-esque, Spanish-style bungalow in Venice Beach, California.

Despite not being a massive living space, it is beautifully decorated and includes French doors, and an outdoor fireplace.

12. Lea Michele.

Vocal powerhouse and Glee alum, Lea Michele, lived in a modestly-sized Los Angeles $1.4 million home for several years before upgrading and moving into a $3 million mansion that features a two-story gym!

She is living her best possible life!

13. Matthew McConaughey.

Just by looking at Matthew McConaughey, you can tell that he's one of the most laid back and chillest people in Hollywood.

Fans adore him! And they'll adore him even more once they realize how he chooses to live his life.

While Matthew McConaughey is certainly one of the most successful male actors of our time and can easily afford to live wherever and however he wants, he has opted for a very simple living situation.

For several years he lived in a 28 square foot Airstream, before shacking up in a home with his girlfriend. His trailer now acts as his office.

14. Jennifer Lawrence.

Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence was the best-paid actor in the world, according to Forbes in 2015, earning a whopping $52 million that year alone.

Considering she's one of the most popular stars in the world, her net worth makes sense.

She lived and continued to live in a 1,413-square-foot condo only until a few years ago.

She did, however, eventually upgrade and move into a Los Angeles mansion in 2017.

Good for you, Lawrence! Live your best life!
