Earlier this week, an old clip of Jimmy Fallon impersonating Chris Rock in blackface for a skit on Saturday Night Live in 2000 resurfaced.
The controversial video clip circulated the internet quickly with fans expressing their shock and disappointment on Twitter. Now, the 45-year-old comedian and talk show host is apologizing for the unearthed video in a new tweet.
The video shows Jimmy Fallon in full blackface impersonating Chris Rock on an episode of Saturday Night Live in 2000.
Naturally, it was upsetting and unsettling to see such a beloved comedian participate in something so tone-deaf and insensitive.
Understandably, people were feeling strongly about this video and the opinions on social media have been varied, to say the least.
"Okay you can think it's in poor taste but since this was part of a TV show, maybe cancel the writers and producers of that show and stop watching it instead, rather than cancelling the actor who was just doing his job," expressed one Twitter user.
"In 2000, while on SNL, I made a terrible decision to do an impersonation of Chris Rock while in blackface. There is no excuse for this," he began.
