Quotes For When You're Not Angry, Just Disappointed

I've been doing a pretty good job of staying in a decent mood. Maybe I haven't been notably happy about much, but considering the state of things, I'm managing an okay baseline.

Unfortunately, I'm starting to wonder if it's just my latent cynicism that's making me less prone to anger and surprise than some of my peers.

I've always considered myself a realist, but as the world crumbles and I cease to be surprised, I wonder who has it better.

Like, are the naturally hopeful people looking at current events and being so shattered by the new norm that I'm in a privileged position relatively?

Or are the naturally hopeful people being knocked down, but can easily rise back up through the power of that hope?

And if more and more things keep going wrong, will that hopeful power run out of steam?

I don't know anymore, and I think that's maybe the point. We can't know. There's no "right" way to react to each stone the world throws at us.

We just dust ourselves off and take another step forward.

Or as a very wise fish once said, we "just keep swimming."

Even if it's against the current of the world, if we all keep swimming, we'll eventually get to our destination on the far side.

If the current is too strong for one of us, we'll all swim together, taking turns in the lead, bearing the brunt of its force until everyone is rested and ready to push forward again.

And maybe we can all find a little hope in that.
