Resurfaced Video Of Céline Dion Defending Looters Is More Powerful Now Than Ever

An old video of Céline Dion defending looters after Hurricane Katrina has resurfaced and it is speaking to the internet now more than ever.

Information about the ongoing protests in the U.S. and around the world is rapidly changing and Diply is committed to providing the most recent data as it becomes available. Some of the information in this story may have changed since publication, and we encourage readers to follow their local trusted news outlet(s) to stay up to date on the latest information surrounding these events.

Céline Dion has made her stance on the George Floyd protests clear with an emotional Instagram post earlier this week.

"As so many have already said, it's not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist," the singer wrote.

Now, a fan of Céline's has resurfaced a video of the French-Canadian icon defending looters in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

She speaks about people in distress and afraid, and while the Black Lives Matter protests are not a result of a devastating hurricane, it's safe to safe the black community and their allies are currently feeling a similar sense of disenfranchisement after the countless murders of innocent and unarmed black people.

"You know, some people are stealing and they're making a big deal out of it," Céline recounts.

"'Oh they're stealing 20 pairs of jeans. Oh they're stealing television sets.' Who cares? They're not gonna go too far with it."

"Maybe those people are so poor, some of the people who do that, are so poor, they've never touched anything in their lives. Let them touch those things for once."

"The main thing right now is not the people who are stealing," Céline says, getting emotional and wiping tears from her eyes.

"... How come it's so easy to send planes, in another country to kill everyone in a second, to destroy lives? We need to serve our country."

The resurfaced video has been making its way around the internet as a good reminder that the main problem has never been, and will never be, the looting.

The main problem is the tragedies that lead to the looting which, in our most current case, is the murder of George Floyd by the Minneapolis police.
