LEGO Pledges $4 Million To Organizations Educating Children On Racial Equality

If you have kids at home, chances are your house is littered with hundreds (if not thousands) of LEGO pieces. And for good reason: the famous building blocks are credited with encouraging children to be creative and inventive.

Now the toy giant has pledged to give even more to kids.

In support of the Black Lives Matter movement, LEGO will donate $4 million.

The company has vowed to pledge support to "organizations dedicated to supporting Black children and educating all children on racial equality," it said in a tweet.

Previous reports erroneously stated that LEGO was planning on pulling police and White House playsets.

In support of #BlackOutTuesday on June 2, LEGO asked affiliate marketers to remove promotional content for the day. However, outlets misinterpreted the company's email and reported that LEGO's intention was to pull all playsets representing police officers and criminals, as well as their White House set.

The company quickly clarified their position after backlash ensued.

"We requested that our affiliate partners refrain from posting promotional LEGO content as part of our decision to respect #BlackOutTuesday and pause posting content on our social media channels in response to the tragic events in the US," they said to Toy Book in a statement. "We regret any misunderstanding."

LEGO's donation represents a 'stand with the Black community against racism and inequality.'

It's hard to argue with that principle. So, you can safely go back to stepping on random LEGO pieces in the dark and quietly cursing their name, knowing they stand for something commendable.
