16-Year-Old Math Whiz Uses TikTok To Help Tutor Fellow Students

A 16-year-old boy with a passion for teaching is using the social sharing app TikTok to tutor fellow students whose schools have temporarily closed and are now resorting to remote-learning, CBS New York reported.

Alexis Loveraz, a math whiz from the Bronx with a 4.0 GPA, has experienced an overwhelming influx of followers to his account since the outbreak began, and he's more than happy to offer his services to thousands of struggling students.

The high school junior actually first began posting the helpful videos before COVID-19, but the virus has certainly compelled students to seek out his page.

Now dubbed the "TikTok Tutor" on the site, Loveraz boasts an impressive 700,000 following, and his videos have amassed a total of more than 6.2 million likes.

“I was, like, really shocked,” he told CBS of his newfound viral fame. “Things that they probably forgot like before COVID-19, this is like a refresher of what I’m giving them out. It’s really cool because they understand it even better the way I’m explaining it to them.”

His videos cover such subjects as algebra, geometry, and chemistry, and he even helps students with SAT prep.

Loveraz said his following isn't just limited to the U.S., either. After all, the entire world is experiencing this pandemic, and everyone could use a helping hand with their schoolwork.

As he explained, his videos have "reached places like United States, Canada, Australia, the Philippines, Singapore."

In fact, the bite-size tutoring clips are so helpful that they're now appearing on Google Classrooms.

And it's clear from the comment sections that these students certainly appreciate his straight-forward, easily accessible means of teaching.

"How did you explain it better than my teacher?" one user implored, while another added, "I learn more from you than I do in school."

Although he's not getting paid to help out, Loveraz said he just enjoys knowing he's making a difference in students' lives.
