Kelly Clarkson Opens Up About Her Struggles With Depression Amid Divorce

One thing that all of us love about Kelly Clarkson is that she isn't afraid of honesty, transparency, and telling it like it is. Ever since she shot to stardom on American Idol, Kelly has been one of the most authentic stars in Hollywood.

We shouldn't have expected her to change her behavior at all during a difficult time in her personal life.

At the beginning of June, it was revealed that Kelly Clarkson had filed for divorce from her husband of six years, Brandon Blackstock.

Kelly and Brandon had been together since 2012 and shared two children together. The couple were also raising two of Brandon's children from a previous marriage.

Kelly has opened up about her struggles with mental health amid the divorce on an epsiode of The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Speaking to guest Demi Lovato, Kelly thanked her for being transparent about her own mental health struggles.

“I have similar issues," Kelly revealed. "I’ve suffered from depression, and I think a lot of people, especially in the creative world or just from childhood, you’ve been trained to, like, just keep going and you can handle it.”

Demi then told Kelly she admired her for being “fearless and courageous and real as, you know.”

“I love that about you,” Demi conitnued. “When I was younger I always thought to myself, ‘If I ever make it, I want to be like her, because she’s real and she’s genuine.'”

Kelly's response was emotional.

“I’m not all the time," she said.

“It takes work,” Kelly explained. “That’s a daily effort in trying to be positive. That’s not like a given, like, ‘Oh, you’re just over it and you went to some magical therapy session and it’s over.' I think that’s a daily thing that you work at and a daily thing that I work at.”

“It’s not easy to always have a spotlight on you and arrows being aimed at you, especially when you are vulnerable and you give people more ammo for all the trolls out there," Kelly stated.

We love you, Kelly, and we're so glad to see you haven't lost the authenticity and honesty that we all love you so much for!
