Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, things have changed a lot when it comes to parties. Many people are opting out of having too many people gathered together at one time.

Many government and health officials are saying groups of 10 or more are a no-go.

Countries all over are issuing warnings against groups of 10 or more together. This is to help the spread of the virus and ensure that everyone can help stop flatten the curve.

Businesses have also been scaling back in a lot of ways, too.

Stores are only allowing a small number of people inside at a time, with many retail stores still closed. Countries are trying their best to maintain safety and allow businesses to operate.

Recently, popular retailer Costco made an announcement that many people were unhappy about.

The big-box food store announced that they would be scaling back on some of their items that they leave out in the bakery. One of the items cut back left some families very unhappy.

Costco officially said they would no longer be selling their big, half-sheet cakes.

The sheet cakes happen to be one of Costco's best-selling items and the most popular purchase. However, the retailer said they would no longer be selling them and suggested customers purchase the smaller cakes in their stores.

Many people online were unhappy with Costco's decision.

People began commenting on their Facebook post to, "please bring back the half-sheet cakes," as it was their favorite to purchase and customize for families and friends. There's even a petition with over 200 signatures asking the store to bring them back.

However, the company is not budging.

Instead, they tried to respond to customers on Facebook to ensure they understood why they were scaling back.

A customer service representative wrote:

"To help limit personal contact and create more space for social distancing, Costco has reduced service in some departments. At this time, we are not making sheet cakes for special order."

Aside from trying to limit person-to-person contact in store, Costco has good reasoning for discontinuing the sheet cakes.

If you think about it, people purchasing large sheet cakes are usually planning large parties. Therefore, Costco is trying to stop the spread in an almost sneaky way — by not allowing people to throw such big parties in the first place.

However, many people have been joking around that they do buy the cake, "just for themselves."

With the cult-like following that Costco has gained over the years, many people are just disappointed that they can't buy the cake for themselves anymore.

Costco has said they have no plans of bringing the half-sheet cakes back just yet.
