Vanilla Ice Cancels Concert After Being Dragged For 'Dumb' Decision To Host One Mid-Pandemic

It's tough to be a musician during a pandemic — so much of your bread and butter is touring, but live shows can be incredibly dangerous.

Information about the coronavirus pandemic is rapidly changing and Diply is committed to providing the most recent data as it becomes available. Some of the information in this story may have changed since publication, and we encourage readers to use online resources from CDC and WHO to stay up to date on the latest information surrounding COVID-19.

Rapper Vanilla Ice began trending July 1st when his name appeared in an executive order from the Governor of Texas.

While the Governor's executive order closed all bars, which essentially cancelled all concerts, an upcoming 4th of July concert at a particular bar starring Vanilla Ice was noted as the only exception to this rule.

Fans immediately began dragging both Vanilla Ice for holding the concert and anyone who was planning on going.

“If you get COVID because you went to the Vanilla Ice concert that somehow is the exception to closure rules, frankly, you deserve that,” one person tweeted in response to the news, while others referred to Ice as "dumb af" for not cancelling the show.

However, it looks like the backlash made its way back to Ice, who has now cancelled the concert.

“Due to the increase in COVID-19 numbers in Austin we’re gonna move the concert to a better date," he said in a tweet later that afternoon. "We were hoping for better Coronavirus numbers by July."

Ice revealed that this decision was done for the health and safety of others.

"Unfortunately the numbers have increased quite a bit so for the safety and health of everyone we’re going to stay home," he said.

That's probably for the best, given the backlash other artists have received for deciding not to cancel their concerts!
