Christina Applegate Responds To 'Dead To Me' Ending After Season 3: 'This Was The Best Way'

Great shows coming to an end is so bittersweet. While I do wish the show could go on forever, it's also satisfying to know the story is ending where the creator always planned on it ending, and that the audience won't be left on a huge cliffhanger before a surprise cancellation.

Dead To Me on Netflix is avoiding that fate by ending after its third season.

*Dead To Me* is one of Netflix's most beloved shows.

The dark comedy follows Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini as two women who meet and quickly bond in a support group for those who are grieving. But their relationship quickly gets more complicated, dark, and hilarious all at the same time.

Netflix has now announced that Dead To Me will be renewed for a third, and final, season.

"From start to finish, Dead To Me is exactly the show I wanted to make," Show creator Liz Feldman said in a statement. "And it's been an incredible gift. Telling a story sprung from grief and loss has stretched me as an artist and healed me as a human."

Liz went on to thank the cast and crew of the show.

"I'll be forever indebted to my partners in crime, my friends for life, Christina and Linda, and our brilliantly talented writers, cast and crew. I am beyond grateful to Netflix for supporting Dead To Me from day one, and I'm thrilled to continue our collaboration," she wrote.

Did you catch that part about "continuing our collaboration?"

Along with signing on for the third season, Netflix also signed on with Liz for a multi-year partnership for original series and other projects.

Okay, so we might lose Dead To Me, but we'll get lots more content from the show's creator! I'm okay with that trade off.

Jane Wiseman, VP of Netflix's Comedy Series, was pretty excited about the news.

"Liz Feldman is a comedic force who brings her fresh and distinct point of view to every element of the creative process from inception through writing and producing," she said. "We could not be more excited to expand our relationship with Liz and continue to work with her on Dead to Me and future series to come."

Christina Applegate has now responded to the news that the show will be ending.

"I will miss these ladies. But we felt this was the best way to tie up the story of these women," Christina said in a tweet. "Thank you to all the fans."

While she couldn't give an exact date, she did try to ease fans' anxiety about when the third season will happen.

"We will be getting back to work when it is safe to do so. Much love," she finished her tweet.

I know we all want the new season as soon as possible, but it's awesome that they're making sure everyone is safe first!

Linda Cardellini also responded to the news.

"So excited for a season 3! Congrats to @thelizfeldman and to our entire hardworking @deadtome family. Big thanks to everyone who watched. Love to you all," Linda shared on Twitter.

Fans have mixed feelings about the news.

While fans are incredibly excited about getting season three and knowing that the show won't end on a cliffhanger/will end the way the creator intended, they're still pretty bummed that they only get one more season of the show.

We're definitely excited for season three!

I always prefer a show to end on a high note rather than drag out for a lot of seasons well past the creator's intention for the storyline — after all, this isn't a show that could just go on forever.

It's still sad, though!

Are you excited for season three? Is your excitement tempered by knowing it'll be the last, or are you happy the show will be ending the way the creator meant it to? Let us know in the comments!
