Sweet Shelter Dog Tries To Hold Hands With Anyone Who Walks Past His Kennel

A lonely shelter dog in Alabama has broken hearts all over the internet after a viral video revealed he tries to hold hands with any person who happens to walk past his kennel.

Speck, the sweet and unbelievably friendly pup in question, always makes sure to greet people with an outstretched paw and his face squished between the metal bars of his kennel at Bullock County Humane Society.

Back in April, humane society director Desiray Miracle-Wilder filmed a video of Speck excitedly greeting her as she mopped the floors outside his enclosure.

In the heartbreaking clip posted to her Facebook page, Desirary showed just how kind the pup truly is as the pair spent some time "holding hands" together.

"His really hard to pass by while cleaning," she wrote in the video's caption. "He literally just wants you to hold his hand. He is going to make a wonderful pet to someone."

In that same post, Desiray revealed Speck has been at the shelter since October 2018, patiently waiting for the right family to bring him home.

“All he wants is people love,” Desiray told The Dodo. “He will reach his little hand out and he just wants you to touch him and hold his hand."

"And he’s so sad when you walk off to finish cleaning or whatever you have to do.”

Although Speck's scarred face might make people think he's an aggressive pup, hardened from years spent fending for himself on the streets, Desiray said this simply isn't true.

“You could put anything else around him — another giant dog, a cat, but he is just so fixated on getting love from people that he doesn’t care about anything else,” she explained.

In fact, all he wants is human connection: “He just wants you to touch him. If you sit down, he’s laying on you, if you hold his hand, he’ll hold your hand, if you scratch his belly, he’ll roll over.”

After the video of Speck was shared online, it quickly blew up, amassing over 300,000 views and nearly 250 shares.

And thanks to all the attention it received, particularly from Allie's Hope For Paws Dog Rescue, Desiray is happy to report that on June 10, Speck was finally adopted.

“He will be running on a 26-acre farm with Mike, his family and two fur brothers!” she wrote in an update on Facebook. “We are so excited. Not only did Speck get adopted due to this video of his cuteness but he also helped a few other fur babies get rescued and he got us some food donations!”
