Stray Kitten Survives 91-Mile Journey Under The Hood Of A Car: 'He's A Lucky Duck'

A stray kitten who stowed away under the hood of an Illinois family's car found himself suddenly a passenger of a 91-mile journey, one which he was miraculously able to survive, KSDK reported.

Jennifer Donini said she was driving alone from Carbondale to her home in Highland when she heard some strange noises from under the hood, later discovering a 7-week old kitten had tagged along for the ride.

Donini first started heard meowing coming from her vehicle when she was about 10 miles away from her house.

Even her mother, who she had been talking to using the car's Bluetooth system, said she could hear the meowing noise as well.

When Donini pulled her car over to investigate, she realized the sound was coming from the hood, and realized there must be a cat hidden somewhere inside the front of the vehicle.

The fact that the cat had not only gotten up inside her car but had survived the lengthy journey this far was a huge surprise to Donini.

"Everything under the hood of the car was hot," she told KSDK. "I couldn't imagine how the cat had managed to get in there and stay there throughout the whole trip home."

"At this point it had been 1.5 hours of travel."

Unfortunately, Donini wasn't able to free the cat herself, so she drove the rest of the way home so her husband could search.

It took the family well over an hour to figure out where exactly the poor kitty had wedged itself. But they were finally able to free him from inside the hot car. Remarkably, Donini said the kitten was determined to be in good health despite the dangerous trip he unwillingly took.

“He is certainly a very lucky duck!” she remarked.

Donini used social media to try and find the little grey and white kitten his very own *furever* home.

Thankfully, one of her co-worker's had a sister-in-law who was looking to adopt, and who was willing to welcome the sweet cat, now appropriately named "Duck", into her family.
