8+ Times People Took Saving Things To A New Level

There are some people in the world who are frugal and want to save money and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that from time to time. Cutting corners is totally normal when it comes to saving money and pinching pennies. But, some people take saving and cutting corners to entirely extreme levels — so much so that it's almost "cheap."

“I broke up with my girlfriend, because she tried to throw this away.”

Everyone wants to use the toothpaste until the very last drop. No one wants to waste things that they spent their money on. But, that being said, this toothpaste container looks like it's absolutely finished for good.

“The car dealer wanted $600 to replace the climate control panel, but here’s my solution for $10.”

Reddit l sandmyth

Talk about a genius invention to save money. But, maybe painting it or putting a cover over the switches would make it look a little nicer — just a thought.

“I have allergies and I wanted to buy an air purifier, but I saw something on the internet that said you can use a filter and a fan instead. Well, I cross my fingers it’ll work.”

Reddit l smolqueerpunk

Air purifiers are expensive. If there is a DIY solution that will save you money it can seem cheap, but maybe cheap is the way to go. I wonder if it works!

“54 years ago my grandfather ‘repaired’ this toilet paper holder by sticking a pencil into it.”

Reddit l hoguemr

Why do grandparents always come up with the most ingenious ways to fix things? I swear that people who are from older generations must have learned how to build inventions in school when they were children.

“Since the shipping cost of tires seemed too high for my parents, they decided to carry it like carry-on baggage and saved $110.”

Reddit l adam0524

I mean, they did save over $100 but traveling with tires is a bit of a commitment. I would say this is a genius and cheap solution, and hey, it's good to know these two can think on their feet.

Talk about using every single ounce.

No one wants to waste money, I'm sure, but trying to get the last drop of every single laundry detergent container seems to be a bit of a stretch. Maybe it's time to just toss these. Huh?

Yikes.

No, I don't pay the gas bill, but I am not going to stay in my own home wearing layers and layers of clothing. Plus, sometimes it gets cold before November.

“My husband thinks that I’m crazy because every time we celebrate a birthday, the first thing I do is take off all the paper from the presents to later use it to give a present to somebody else.”

Reddit l backswimmer47

Using wrapping paper over and over again is truthfully a great idea. There has to be more to life than using wrapping paper only one time. Seems like a waste to just throw it away.

Buying shorts? No thanks.

Instead of buying shorts, cutting your jeans into shorts is a way to save money. Unless, of course, you need to buy new jeans because you already cut your jeans into shorts.

“I really wanted a backpack vacuum cleaner, but the prices were very high. Fortunately, I already had this fella and a skein of rope.”

Reddit l kingcobraninja

When the price on an item you want is way too high, you make something into what you want — inventions are the way to go. Put a few strings on the vacuum and you now have a backpack.

“People pay for a gym membership, and I work out by cleaning up all the garbage in my area.”

Reddit l rust_in_pieces

The best part is that if you turn these in, you can work out and afford to get yourself a gym membership to work out some more. Smart and healthy!

Need to store wrapping paper? No problem.

Taping together two diaper boxes that you no longer need may seem cheap, but it stores the wrapping paper in a way that prevents it from getting ripped or bent. Smart!

“I’m a spender, so I found a way to deal with this problem and froze my credit card in the freezer.”

Reddit l Chimp-eh

This is the craziest but most effective way to save your money. I wonder how long it'll take them to break it with a hammer. The next time you get the impulse to do some online shopping, stick your card in the freezer.

Use it to the last ounce.

Protein powder may not be the most expensive thing in the world, but if you want to use it until the last drop, use it. Make the last shake in the bottle itself.

“The seller saved money by shipping a package in this box. It was a clever reusable idea, and the size is perfect.”

Reddit l unmgrad

This is where cutting corners is a smart idea. Any box is a good box when you're shipping things. As long as your item fits and the box is in good condition, why not reuse it?

Going to the movies is extremely expensive.

Bringing popcorn to the movies instead of buying popcorn at the movies is extremely smart. While it seems a bit cheap to put popcorn in plastic bags, it's cheaper than the $10 bucket!

Use every last drop of oil.

If your essential oils are running low, soak them in cups of water and then let the scent diffuse in the water when you are done.

One battery still works.

Reddit

Don't have two batteries? Apparently, you can still make anything work if you set your mind to it. This nifty little trick looks like something everyone should try.

Don't want to spend all that money on a water bottle or cup.

If you're trying not to splurge on a big cup of soda or a water bottle while you're out, you can save money by bringing your own cup. Sure, it's a bit weird, but hey! Why not?

Making sure they use every last drop.

Toothpaste is something that no one ever wants to waste. So, this person cut into that tube and made sure every single drop of minty goodness was used.

“My father pours his collection of free shower gels from hotel rooms into our container at home.”

Reddit

Everyone takes the little hotel shampoos and soaps. It's only natural. But, not everyone fills their own soap containers with them at home. That's a bit extreme to me.

“I always cut sponges in half so they last longer.”

Reddit l Faro7453

Sponges may not be that expensive, but the more you use them, the harder they are to use. Cutting them in half gives you more time with your sponge and lets you save the few dollars you would spend to buy more.
