15+ Things That Fooled Us Into Thinking They Were Other Things

Although most of us rely on them a lot, our eyes can be pretty easy to fool sometimes.

Whether it's because we're looking at something from a weird angle, seeing it in weird lighting, or seeing it out of the corner of our eye, there can be quite a disconnect between what we're seeing and what's really there.

It's for that reason that one friend back in school swore up and down that a dictionary we used in French class had the word "honkydoodle" in it. And it's also the reason why we can see something completely different in these photos even after we know what they are.

Normally we wouldn't look at a crab and say, "who's a good boy?" Yet it's pretty hard not to in this case.

Reddit | ZaPandaz

That's because if you look closely at this crab's head, you can see the face and floppy ears of a dog.

This mouse doesn't look like anything but itself yet its shadow is a different story.

Reddit | diogonunes

I mean, I know I'm not the only one who sees a pretty distinct face in that shadow. You can make out a nose, a mouth, and a brow all at once.

Aww, I wonder what's wrong with this faucet?

Reddit | Rawalmond73

I'm sure it runs perfectly fine but it also seems to be having a pretty bad day judging by the look on its face.

Have we been making taps cry every time we turn them on?

Sometimes it doesn't take a big difference in an object's appearance to make it look a lot like something else.

For instance, there's only a slight groove in this egg's shell but it still looks like a very small football.

At first, it may look like some inconsiderate smokers made an utter mess of this beach.

Reddit | JoshuaHoletz

Fortunately, we aren't looking at a collection of cigarette butts. Instead, this beach is filled with a bunch of pretty unsightly sea creatures.

Some of you might have a hard time deciding which is worse.

Although the intentions behind this sign were pretty clear, it almost feels like a Rorshach test.

Reddit | koynekton

Be honest, did you think this sign was telling you that you couldn't ride a skateboard or that your eyes weren't allowed to look angry when you first saw it?

This is just a dog shaking itself after getting wet but it kind of looks like something much more cosmically important is happening.

Reddit | cheesewit40

The way that these water droplets are showing up on camera, they almost look like an array of stars, which I suppose would suggest that a dog is at the center of the universe.

If you look at whatever messaging app you use in your phone, the icon probably looks a lot like this.

Reddit | CMbrunch

Rocks may not have anything to say but that apparently doesn't stop them from looking like a cartoon speech bubble.

It's pretty hard to tell whether the shape in this cracked window is a clue or a coincidence.

Reddit | Know0neSpecial

The cracks in this glass do look uncannily like a bird, though. While it's true that birds run into windows all the time, they don't usually leave a mosaic that so clearly represents their heads, tails, and wings.

So it's hard to say what caused this.

The supports on the backs of these chairs at KFC look a lot like the Colonel's signature tie.

Reddit | beastybevan

Since it makes the most structural sense to incorporate triangles into your design, there's a good chance this is a coincidence.

However, since KFC's Twitter account follows 11 others that were specifically picked to represent "11 herbs and spices" (the Spice Girls and some guys named Herb), it's also not impossible that they committed this hard to their iconography.

It would be pretty understandable if you were worried about a hooded figure lurking around your home after seeing this outside your window.

Reddit | stirredturd

But in this case, it turns out you wouldn't have to worry because it's really just the remnants of a tree that was chopped down.

From the looks of this display, it might seem that the model has a mole or a beauty mark but neither is actually true.

Reddit | BoomShop

It's just that this store display has a dead fly stuck in it that's showing up thanks to the way the ad is lit.

We wouldn't normally wish that the stains and marks that form on our stuff could be part of the design but that's kind of how I'd feel about this shower curtain.

Reddit | guesswho752

After all, this is just a plain shower curtain but the mark the water made on it looks like a pretty cool sword.

I like how even the urinal seems to look shocked about what happened to it.

Reddit | horsthorsthorst

And that kind of works regardless of whether someone vandalized it or it just collapsed on its own. Either way, we're probably left with more questions than answers.

This cherry tomato seemed to grow some "horns" but it makes it look more adorable than I would've expected.

Reddit | HungryOcean5

Although they're not quite even, they look a little bit like rabbit ears. As a result, the stem now looks like a little hat.

If you look at this lamp from most angles, it doesn't look like anything but a lamp.

Reddit | Lordthunderwood

But if we look at it from this angle specifically, it kind of looks like a duck that's balancing the light on its bill.

The glow of daybreak can be a beautiful sight but this photo shows that it can also look pretty ominous.

Reddit | Anonymous3832

Since I don't wear any rings, I'm not exactly worrying about this Eye of Sauron peering into my soul. It definitely looks like a problem for somebody, though.

Speaking of things that remind me of *The Lord of the Rings*, does anything about this tree seem unusual to you?

Reddit | pauldfleck

I know I'm not the only one who thinks it looks like the photographer caught it in the middle of running. Maybe it's not just the toys from Toy Story who freeze in place when people are around.

When the uploader posted this pic, they identified it as "a girl blowing on a dandelion."

Reddit | tall-bois

We've been noticing all the different things that clouds have looked like for years but they don't usually set an entire scene like this.

Don't worry, these aren't teeth.

Reddit | PianoPlayer1323

I know it looks uncannily like a row of teeth still attached to the gums were ripped out but it's actually a particularly fatty strip of bacon.

It is kind of unsettling how much it still looks like teeth even after you know that, though.
