103-Year-Old Woman Begins Post-Quarantine Bucket List With Her First Tattoo

When life proceeds at a more or less normal pace for us, it's easy to fall so far into a routine that we forget what we really want to do in life. And even when we do remember that thing we've always wanted to do, we can quickly find ourselves getting distracted once again and forget it anew.

So while they tend to be stressful and even scary, it's also true that periods of upheaval in our lives can put us in a state of mind to finally do what we've been putting off.

And as we're about to see, that's especially true if that upheaval has us spending a lot of time to ourselves.

On June 16, Dorothy Pollack spent her 103rd birthday in a nursing home in Muskegon, Michigan.

This occurred during a period of prolonged isolation in lockdown as nursing homes tend to be vulnerable to outbreaks of disease such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

As her granddaughter Teresa Zavitz-Jones told CNN, "COVID-19 had her in prison for months. The nurse in the home said she was horribly depressed and we needed to get her out. We couldn't see her so we had no idea how she really was. She's extremely hard of hearing so phone calls were not helpful."

However, she was eventually discharged from the nursing home, whereupon she became committed to crossing things off her bucket list, starting with her first-ever tattoo.

As she said, "It was pretty exciting because years ago my grandson wanted me to get one and I wouldn't do it. All of a sudden, I decided I would like to have one."

This led her to a local parlor called A.W.O.L. Custom Tattooing, where she sat patiently for tattooist Ray Reasoner Jr.

As he said, "She took it like a champ. I didn't even see her wince. Maybe she had half a wince once. She was just so excited. It was an amazing experience. If someone over a century old tells you to do something for them you just gotta do it."

And she wanted that tattoo to represent the one thing she loves more than beer and burgers.

As we can see, she has quite the fondness for frogs and was reported to have absolutely loved how her tattoo turned out.

And it seems she didn't waste any time before moving on to the next item on her bucket list.

It's unknown what else she'll get up to but CNN reported that Pollack has also crossed off taking her first ride on a motorcycle since getting her tattoo.
