It's hard to imagine America's Sweetheart, Dolly Parton, saying no to anyone about anything, especially when it comes to the King of Rock himself, Elvis Presley.
However, Dolly might not be as accommodating as she seems, and has always kept a shrewd mind when it comes to her business dealings, which has definitely worked out for her.
Not only has she performed some of the most iconic songs of all time, like "Jolene," "9 to 5" "Old Flames Can't Hold A Candle To You" and "Two Doors Down," to name a few, she was also the writer behind some of the biggest hits for other artists as well.
Whitney Houston would go on to record possibly the most iconic cover of the song in 1992 for the movie The Bodyguard, however, she wasn't the first one who was interested in covering the song.
In a recent interview with Billboard Dolly talked about how Elvis Presley himself had wanted to record his own version.
Dolly, of course, said no.
“That was one of the hardest things I ever had to do because I loved Elvis,” Dolly revealed. “Even though my daddy didn’t get an education, my daddy was really smart in making deals and bargaining and how he raised a family like he did.”
“If it had been a new song, I might have considered it."
Dolly being Dolly, obviously, ended on a positive note: “He would have sung it great. Can you imagine Elvis singing ‘I Will Always Love You?’"
I think Elvis would've done a great job!
