It is with heavy hearts that we report the tragic loss of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman at age 43 after a four-year battle with colon cancer.
The actor passed away with family at his side at his home in Los Angeles.
A statement was released on Chadwick's personal social media account alerting fans of the devastating news late Friday night.
The role made Chadwick a household name, but it was far from the actor's first major role.
The actor played Jackie Robinson in the 2013 film 42, James Brown in Get on Up the following year, and Thurgood Marshall in the 2017 movie Marshall.
The post indicates the actor died with his wife and close family by his side after a four-year battle with stage three colon cancer.
The statement continued: "A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much."
"It was the honor of his career to bring King T'Challa to life in Black Panther."
"Wakanda For Life. It was more than just a movie. It was [an] uplift for black people and you did that bro. May you rest within your success," tweeted one emotional fan.
"This is such devastating news. We’re praying for his family. The world has lost an immeasurable talent and a great person," commented Chris.
"All my aloha and condolences to his ohana. I’m truly gutted. What a wonderful spirit. I’m so sorry RIP," Jason wrote on Instagram.
He was truly a one-of-a-kind talent and Hollywood has lost a shining star.
