Someone once told me that marriage is like those cracker things you used to get at Christmas time — you never know what you're going to get until you pull it.

And while I think that's definitely true, I also think a lot of us were seriously misled about what being married would actually be like, thanks to the shows and movies we watched as kids. That big cracker reveal is always made bigger when your perception of life after "I do" is seriously different.

I, for one, thought I'd always want to be with my SO all the time. I'm talking 24/7 here.

But what I've found out is that I would much rather run errands alone without someone following me around the store, trying to throw things into the cart that we most definitely do not need, while also complaining about the price of the laundry detergent I chose.

Another thing I got wrong was that I just naturally believed he would be able to do things — *anything* — on his own without my help.

Yeah, clearly I was way off on that one. Somehow I've become the index for this entire house because I'm the only one who seems to know where everything is.

You'd think he'd know his belt would be in his drawer without asking me but alas, here we are, every morning with the same question.

Don't even get me started on the endless, utterly pointless arguments.

We can't seem to agree on much, and even when we do, we still find a way to fight about that.

How? I don't know. I didn't think it was possible. But I've clearly been wrong before.

But at the end of the day, I'm still supremely grateful to be with the person I've decided to share my life with.

Even if he does have a super bad habit of interrupting me every chance he gets.
