104-Year-Old Woman Watches Community Drive By In Special Birthday Celebration

For most of us, it's hard to fathom what it would even feel like to live 100 years. Not only would such a lifespan likely show us what seems like multiple lifetimes worth of changes, but that's especially true for those turning 100 now.

After all, if there's one thing that sets our lives apart from those of centuries past, it's that everything seems to happen a lot faster now. So you'd likely have an easier time keeping track of what's stayed the same since 1920 than of what's changed.

Nonetheless, one Pennsylvania woman seemed to be taking everything that's going on in stride as she celebrated one special birthday.

On September 1, Verna Giachetti of Fairchance, Pennsylvania celebrated her 104th birthday.

As WTAE reported, she now resides in a personal care home and sat outside alongside friends and family while an entire procession passed by just for her.

In the interest of protecting her health, most of those who turned up to celebrate drove by the home and wished Giachetti well.

Although her friends and members of her family were counted among them as well, we can see that members of the community like these scouts perched in the back of a fire truck were also keen to celebrate.

As far as organizers were concerned, it was only right for the "sweetest lady" to experience such an enthusiastic celebration.

As one of them told WTAE, "We've not been able to see her since March 13th and we thought it would be a nice way to bring everyone together. And this was a popular idea amongst other people so that's why we decided to do it."

They've also said that this isn't the first pandemic Giachetti has experienced.

However, it's not likely that she would have much to say about what life was like during the 1918 influenza pandemic as it would have already started to subside by the time she was three years old.

But with any luck, she will nonetheless be able to accurately claim one day that she survived two different pandemics.

But until that day comes, happy birthday to Verna Giachetti and it's good to see so many people staying conscientious about her safety.
