Puppy Found By Rescue Crew In Ashes Of Home Destroyed By California Wildfires

Butte County, California is currently one of the areas badly affected by the wildfires tearing through the state. The fire they are specifically dealing with is the North Complex Fire, which began as a collection of smaller fires first sparked by a lightning storm in August 2020.

As of this writing, the fires are far from contained, but search and rescue teams are out in areas already destroyed.

Sadly, at least 15 people have been confirmed dead since searching began.

It's not all bad news, though.

The Butte County Sheriff shared the story of one very welcome, happy rescue on their Facebook page.

"These last several days have been hard on our entire county and we thought we would share a positive story today," the post began.

Deputies from the sheriff's office have been working alongside the local volunteer search and rescue group.

Together, they had been carefully searching through the debris of a large property in Berry Creek, California where they found a puppy amongst the ash and rubble.

Incredibly, beyond the expected smoke inhalation and dehydration, the sweet little puppy only had minor burns.

The pup was temporarily dubbed "Trooper" by the crew, who took them to a veterinary clinic in Chico, California for treatment.

Once Trooper was in good hands, the sheriff's department turned their attention to locating his family.

And they did!

According to the post, the owner of the property had several dogs and had been unable to find them all before the fire forced them to leave.

I can't imagine how hard that was for them, and they must have been so happy to be reunited with the little pup.
