Alicia Silverstone Responds After Her Son Was Made Fun Of For Having Long Hair

Kids can be mean sometimes, especially to other kids who are doing something a little bit different than most. Whether that's how they dress, how they talk, how they act, or how they look, the things that make every kid unique and special can sometimes get them some negative attention, too.

Alicia Silverstone is proving that her son doesn't mind the haters.

Alicia Silverstone is an actress you almost definitely recognize.

Alicia played the iconic Cher Horowitz in Clueless, as well as Batgirl in Batman and Robin and Eve from Blast From The Past.

While she's still acting, these days she's also known for another thing: being a great mother to her nine-year-old son, Bear.

Alicia frequently shares updates on Beau's life on her Instagram.

While Bear definitely seems like a happy and healthy kid, many fans have noticed that he's got long hair that rivals his mothers, and that the two are practically twins!

Not everyone is positive when it comes to Beau's hair, however, as Alicia has recently shared.

Alicia recently shared a post detailing how proud and supportive she was of her son after he'd been bullied for his hair.

"I just love him so much!" Alicia began the post, writing, "Also, I just LOVE his hair in this image, I had to grab a quick pic. One time my son was made fun of by other kids because of his hair on a bus ride to surf camp."

Alicia explained that she thought he would want to cut it after being made fun of.

"After he had returned and told me, I thought he would want to cut it for a haircut appointment we had already scheduled the next day, but when we showed up, he said 'please give me a trim so I can grow it to my waist,'" she wrote.

"That’s my boy! He knows who he is. He loves his hair and chooses to have it long."

"Mama and Papa aren’t going to stop him from being him. He’s beautiful and we love his hair! We would never impose any social ideas about what hair on a boy or girl should look like. We should all try to embrace our children and who they choose to be without any judgement!" Alicia added.

"Plus there are so many very handsome men who have long hair," Alicia added.

Alicia listed a few examples of celebrities famous for their long locks, including Brad Pitt, Harry Styles, and Jason Momoa, who all definitely rocked the long hair look no matter what people might have had to say about it.

Fans took to the comments to share messages of support for Bear and his hair.

"My, now 22 yr old youngest son grows his hair for child cancer patients for wigs. My granddaughter thinks he is Tarzan, it’s her favorite. It’s down to just above his [waist]," one fan wrote, adding that they'll likely get two wigs out of his next cut.

Others shared that their kids had also been bullied for their hair.

"My 10 year old is CONSTANTLY getting made fun of for his long hair. He never ever [lets] it bother him. Your boy is absolutely stunning," one fan commented, adding a heart-eyes emoji for good measure.

"This literally made [me] cry," one fan wrote.

"I have not cut my 2 year old son's hair yet because it is curly and beautiful. My father insults it every time he sees us or a picture of my son. He tells me, I need to cut my son's hair so he will 'look like a boy and not a little girl.' I just keep telling him, that this is my son and I will never make him conform to any gender stereotypes," they continued.

It's clear that Alicia (and Bear) are making a huge impact by not letting the bullies get to them!

Fans in the comments of her post made it clear that they agree with her — long hair is for anyone who wants long hair, and Bear looks adorable with his chosen hairstyle!

We can definitely agree with that!
