Kelly Clarkson Is Being Sued By Her Ex-Husband's Father's Company

Divorce is usually messy, but it can get even more so when your work is intertwined with your relationship, whether directly or through family. It turns out being famous does not cancel out that risk, as Kelly Clarkson has recently discovered after being sued by her management company, which is owned by her ex-husband's father.

Kelly Clarkson had been married to Brandon Blackstock since 2013.

The couple, who share two children together, filed for divorce on June 4 of this year, as announced by ET, who also confirmed that Kelly had cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for filing.

Kelly has opened up about what she's been going through.

In an interview with Glamour, Kelly stated that "everything had been crazy" about her new life in quarantine and added that life has been "an emotional rollercoaster" while going through everything.

Kelly also sent a few tweets out thanking everyone who's supported her through this.

"Shout out 2 every single guest I’ve had while taping my show this summer. This year has been challenging, overwhelming &sometimes it feels like hope is lost," Kelly revealed in a frank tweet on July 21.

Kelly continued.

"BUT I have had the honor of meeting some incredible humans doing amazing things &keeping hope alive &I want 2 say THANK U," she finished.

Of course, the situation hasn't been drama-free.

Kelly has had to deal with a few trolls when it comes to her divorce.

After Kelly filled in for Simon Cowell on America's Got Talent, one troll caught Kelly's attention by tweeting that it was "no wonder her marriage didn't work" because Kelly was all about "being on TV."

Obviously, Kelly responded.

"Wow," Kelly responded in a tweet.

"Shaming a woman who has a great work ethic, is a great mom, and who steps up and fills in when a friends asks for a favor because that’s actually what 'good old country girls' do... This can't be who you are deep down," Kelly tweeted.

The drama wasn't over after that, however.

Kelly is now being sued for $1.4 million in unpaid commissions by Starstruck Management Group.

Starstruck Management Group, which has been Kelly's representation for the past 13 years, is run by Narvel Blackstock, the father of Kelly's ex-husband.

The complaint claims that Kelly has not paid the full commission for her work on The Voice and The Kelly Clarkson Show.

“Over the course of approximately 13 years, Starstruck developed Clarkson into a mega superstar,” the complaint reads.

“By way of example only, Starstruck was instrumental in helping Clarkson achieve success in terms of numerous hit albums, multiple Grammy wins and nominations, her role on popular television shows like ‘The Voice’ and her own talk show," it states.

"Despite Starstruck’s hard work and dedication, Clarkson has decided she is going to stop paying Starstruck for what is contractually owed.”

Startstruck alleges that Kelly will owe an additional $5.4 million by the end of the year on top of what she has already paid and what she allegedly owes.

Kelly has not yet publicly responded to this news.

Kelly's fans have a lot of opinions on this.

"Another reason getting divorced sucks," one fan tweeted, while another wondered if it was even possible to sue over an oral agreement, since Kelly had not signed an official contract with Starstruck.

A lot of fans came to her defense.
