Just two days after openly mocking Joe Biden for wearing a face mask out in public and repeatedly downplaying the effectiveness of such face coverings, Donald Trump has tested positive for the coronavirus.
The POTUS announced his diagnosis early Friday morning with a tweet, revealing that his wife — First Lady Melania Trump — has also tested positive, and assuring everyone the pair will begin their "quarantine and recovery process immediately."
As CBS News reported, when asked by moderator Chris Wallace why he often appears in public without a face mask, Trump insisted he wears a face covering "when needed."
"I put a mask on, you know, when I think I need it," he explained. "Tonight is an example, everybody has had a test. I wear a mask when needed. When needed, I wear masks."
"I don't wear masks like him," Trump said. "Every time you see him, he's got a mask."
He also added that Biden "could be speaking 200 feet away" and then "shows up with the biggest mask I've ever seen."
At a rally in Pennsylvania last month, the president brought up Biden's mask-wearing and implored of his supporters, "Did you ever see a man who likes a mask as much as him?”
He went on to suggest that his election rival doesn't cover his face to protect himself or others from the pandemic, but rather “because, you know what, it gives him a feeling of security. If I were a psychiatrist, I’d say: ‘This guy’s got some big issues.'”
