10+ Times Celebrities Gave Us Second Hand Embarrassment

Ah, celebs.

They give us so much: movies and TV shows to binge, songs to jam in the car to, and style inspiration to copy.

They also give us plenty of awkward moments that make us feel all sorts of uncomfortable. This includes everything from awkward interviews to tweets that backfired immediately.

Here are 10+ times celebs gave us secondhand embarrassment.

Secondhand embarrassment is a VERY real thing, and it happens to celebrities a lot.

I mean, we expect it to be honest, considering the fact that they are more or less in the limelight 24 hours a day.

Everyone is watching them, so it's easy to be embarrassed when they do something wrong.

But the truth is, we actually love to watch it happen.

It gives us something to laugh at! And sometimes even, it's all in good fun, and innocent.

Let's get into some of the moments that had us cringing in our seats.

1. When John Travolta butchered Idina Menzel's name at the Oscars.

The world was absolutely puzzled when he called her Adele Dazeem.

"I've been beating myself up all day," he said in a statement to E! News afterward. In the end, he took some words of wisdom from Idina and let it go.

2. When Kim Kardashian misspelled Giorgio Armani's name.

By doing so, she got dissed by the brand...

To be fair, it is probably a name that gets misspelled often, but regardless, the brand was not having it at all!

3. When Izzy Azalea failed at freestyling on live radio.

You had one job, Izzy. The job you're supposed to know how to do: rapping!

To make her fail worse, a caller called in and said that her freestyle was trash. I mean, they weren't wrong...

4. When Bella Thorne threw shade at PewDiePie at the Teen Choice Awards.

The actress threw shade by pretending that she couldn't pronounce his name.

But no one got the joke and it got really quiet, fast. It was super awkward, and she could not recover from it.

5. When Demi Lovato flubbed this interview question.

Ah, Demi. She is lucky this awkward moment was pretty darn adorable.

When an interviewer asked her what her favorite dish was (as in, you know, food) she answered with her favorite dishware instead.

6. When Jennifer Lawrence fell on stage at the 2013 Oscars.

Her big moment was crushed...by her.

Thankfully, the move was so on-brand for J-Law, who is always entertaining at these fancy award shows. So it actually only made people love her even more.

7. When Lady Gaga had to endure this awkward interview with Ryan Seacrest.

Fans really felt for Gaga who had to deal with Ryan constantly shoving a microphone in her face without even asking a question.

At one point, Gaga even called Ryan out on it!

After mimicking him, she said, "You're like answer my question, but I'm not asking one."

Awkwardddd.

In other awkward moments, remember when Ryan tried to high-five a blind man? Yep. It's a moment the host can never live down.

8. When Ariana Grande made a failed joke on live television.

When the singer was presenting The Weeknd at the 2016 Grammys, she tried to make a punny joke.

She said, "get ready for the pun of the century, ladies and gentlemen, he EARNED IT." And then...crickets.

9. When Nick Jonas performed on stage with food stuck in his teeth:

Oh, boy.

It was very fitting for the JoBro singer to be debuting the band's new song, "What a Man Gotta Do" last night 'cause what a man gotta do is BRUSH HIS TEETH.

Later, he tweeted: at least you know I eat my greens," with a laughing emoji.

10. When Jerry Seinfeld rejected Kesha's hug.

Kesha may be a huge Jerry Seinfeld fan, but the same can't be said the other way.

That's because the Seinfeld alum had no idea who the singer was when she went up to him during an interview on the red carpet and asked for a hug.

11. When Rita Ora had this massive #Awkward Twitter fail.

The British singer may be popular in England.

But when it comes to the American market — at least back in 2014 — not so much. To tease the launch of a new song, she made fans an interesting proposition.

Get her tweet retweeted 100,000 times and she'll release a new song.

Only thing is, no one seemed to care... Rita deleted the tweet after 2,000 retweets.

Then, in her embarrassment, she deleted the tweet and pretended she got hacked.

12. When Lena Dunham told the world we don't need fathers...on Father's Day.

Yikes! Wrong timing and just wrong tweet in general, Lena.

Due to the backlash, she ended up deleting the tweet. But people were already peeved out at the controversial star.

13. When Ashley Graham asked Jason Momoa to perform the Haka and got shut down by his wife.

The model put her foot in her mouth when she asked Momoa to perform the Haka.

Jason's wife, Lisa Bonet, looked super disapproving as she said, "no, that's not necessary."

Ashley's recovery from there was just super awkward...

14. When Rami Malek got ignored by Nicole Kidman on live TV.

Imagine how uncomfortable this would be for that to happen in front of millions of people...

I am once again feeling so bad for the Bohemian Rhapsody star right now.

15. When Kylie Jenner posted this massive beauty fail.

She may be a beauty mogul, but this fail caused fans to question the legitimacy of this.

First, she used a floral filter to show off her new Kylie Skin Foaming Face Wash.

Then, when she washed her face, she did it for only 10 SECONDS.

This was highly unusual and caused her foundation to still be all over her towel when she dried her face.

For a beauty mogul, this was a major no-no when advertising a product.

16. When Dakota Johnson told Ellen she wasn't her favorite comedian.

That wasn't all.

When Ellen tried to say that Dakota never invited her to her birthday party, she schooled the host on her own TV show by saying that that wasn't true.

Catching Ellen in a lie was awkward but oh, so satisfying.

17. When Ellen forgot that Katy Perry was married to Russell Brand.

During a game titled "Will You Perry Me?" Katy had to decide which celebs were more attractive.

She asked "Do I have to get married again?" to which Ellen responded, "You were not married."

There was an awkward silence before Katy had to correct her.

18. That time Kendall Jenner got mad at a cue card holder.

CBS

Talk about mad awkward.

I don't know who I feel more embarrassed for... Kendall, the people she is calling out, or Kylie who just has to stand there super awkwardly until the moment passes.

19. When Kanye West admitted that he never voted until 2020.

West captioned his photo, "Today I voted for the first time in my life for the President of the United States, and it's for someone I truly trust...me."

One look into his Instagram comments will show you just how badly people took the news. It certainly gave people around the world, and his fans, embarrassment knowing that their idol had never used his right to vote before 2020.

20. When Gal Gadot got celebrities together to sing "Imagine."

When Gadot got a ton of her famous friends together to sing a song during the lockdown, it really wasn't well-received.

People called it tone deaf, as celebrities have tons of privilege and are a lot better off than most people around the world who had lost their jobs and were suffering.

She finally responded to the backlash she got from the video.

"Sometimes, you know, you try and do a good deed and it’s just not the right good deed," she told Vanity Fair. "I had nothing but good intentions and it came from the best place, and I just wanted to send light and love to the world."

21. When Justin Bieber said the North Pole was a continent.

Listen, I get it, geography is hard!

But there actually aren't that many continents, so arguably, those are the easiest things to remember. The North Pole is definitely not one of those continents.

22. When Whoopi Goldberg farted on the air

Luckily, these ladies found it hilarious and Goldberg recovered quite quickly!

But needless to say, it had us all cringing and turning red in our seats from embarrassment. I seriously did not envy her.

23. All of Kim Kardashian's Photoshop fails.

Unfortunately, it happens OFTEN.

Editing photos is difficult, clearly, but with Kim, it happens so often that you'd hope by now she'd just give up! Fans always point it out, and they are always super embarrassed for her when they do.

24. When Elizabeth Olsen's dress flew up during Paris Fashion Week.

Luckily, she laughed it off and her underwear wasn't too revealing, but it definitely had everyone going red for the poor star.

This one wasn't her fault though, so it definitely wasn't as bad as it could have been.
