'It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown' Celebrates Its 55th Anniversary

There's nothing that makes you feel quite as old as when you realize all the programs you loved watching on television when you were young have been around longer than most college students have been alive!

It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown has been a staple of the Halloween season for over half a century, and it's celebrating its birthday on October 27th.

*It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown* is a beloved classic.

It's one of many Peanuts specials that earned their place in our hearts and minds by being funny, sweet, and just dark enough to entertain kids while keeping their parents laughing too.

Who could forget the deadpan delivery of "I got a rock," after Charlie Brown's disastrous experience Trick or Treating?

The movie first aired on October 27th, 1966.

That means the film is celebrating its 54th birthday today, although we think it doesn't look a day over 25 (and you better remember this when our birthday comes around).

It's hard to believe this holiday classic has been airing every year for over half a century!

In 2020, it was the first year since 1966 that the special doesn't air on broadcast television.

That year, the special (alongside the other Peanuts specials we usually watch to round out the year, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and A Charlie Brown Christmas) was exclusively streaming on Apple TV.

The movie was available to stream on the platform for free from October 30th to November 1st but most people felt cheated.

Unless of course you were smart enough to have kept your recorded version, in which case, fire up the VHS player!

We'll be waiting patiently for our invite.

Will you be streaming It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown this year? I know I will!
