An iPhone repairman was recently left feeling more than just a little confused when one of his customers hid $100 in the back of his phone, along with a note explaining that cash was meant to be hush money.
In a video shared to TikTok, the tech shows stunned viewers the mysterious contents hidden inside the phone and explains the man was intending to bribe him into determining that the phone was "unfixable" to avoid an awkward situation with his wife.
As explained in the clip, the technician, who's identified on the app as being named Mani, recently had a customer and his wife come into his shop with an iPhone in need of fixing.
"I was like 'alright, give me an hour and I'll finish it for you'," Mani recalled of their interaction.
The customer had hidden a crisp $100 bill in the back of his phone, right against its battery, presumably for the tech to find.
But that's not all that was in there.
The note reads, "Please tell my wife the phone is unfixable, she want [sic] to check the call history, $100 is yours, thanks."
Specifically, to lie to the customer's wife so she wouldn't find out who her husband has been calling lately. Very sneaky indeed.
"Should I tell her?" he asks. "Or should I keep the $100?"
As of writing, that clip has over 2.2 million views on the app, along with more than 170,000 likes from users who appreciated Mani sharing this tricky, and rather unusual situation he found himself in.
"When they come back for [the] phone, give it all back, note money, all of it," one user suggested. "Have no part of it. Tell him you couldn't fix his 'problem'."
Instead, this person suggested that Mani "keep the hundred and respect the bro code."
I guess this suggests that strangers can count as bros?
Namely, that Mani should tell the wife what's going on and keep the money for himself.
One deceit deserves another, I suppose?
In that clip, the woman arrives to pick up her husband's phone.
As this encounter begins, we immediately see Mani's decision.
"I don't want nothing to do with it," the tech says. "I don't want you guys to get me involved in this."
"Are you fing serious?" she demands. "He thinks he's so fing slick."
That's when she tells Mani she'll pay him $200 to actually fix the phone so she can see exactly what her husband has been up to, and what he was so desperate to hide from her.
However, we'll soon see that things won't quite be that simple for Mani now that he's responded to his moral dilemma.
In one final update video, we see the man return for his phone, only to discover his wife has already picked it up.
After getting the cops involved, Mani has let concerned fans know that he is "completely fine" and assures them that the police took care of the outraged man.
As for what happened between him and his wife... Well, that's staying between him and his wife.
