There have been a lot of norms broken by the presidency of Donald Trump, and who knows how many will be repaired when Joe Biden moves into the White House, but we do know one thing: there will be "First Dogs" again.
Donald Trump was the first president since James K. Polk in 1845 to not have a pet.
Champ's already a pro at the political life. He was adopted by the Bidens in 2008 and spent eight years living in the vice presidential residence at the U.S. Naval Observatory.
Major was adopted in 2018 from the Delaware Humane Association.
Since shelter dogs can sometimes get a bad rap, this is a huge milestone toward showing that rescues can be just as loving and loyal as a pet raised from infancy.
Lyndon Johnson's daughter Luci is said to have found her dog Yuki at a gas station and given him a home. He visited the White House regularly and LBJ fell in love, so Luci let him keep him.
Yuki spent two years in the White House, then moved to LBJ's ranch until the former president passed away and Yuki rejoined Luci's family until his own death.
It's also clear from my personal, animal-leaning social media feeds, that animal lovers are ready to have dogs in the White House again.
