10+ Celebrities Who Opened Up About Their Messy Divorces

Making a relationship work in Hollywood is tough work (just look at these 10+ celebs who have already split in 2020).

It's even harder sometimes when a couple is married.

While a lot of celebs don't like to divorce & tell, some have gone on the record to share candid details about their messy divorces. Here are 10+ of them.

1. Miley Cyrus

Everything about Miley's divorce from Liam Hemsworth was messy.

It all started when she was photographed kissing Kaitlynn Carter the same day news broke that she and Liam had separated. Soon, accusations of cheating and even substance abuse were tossed around.

Since rumors of Mily cheating were at the forefront of this drama, she took to Twitter in 2019 to clear this up.

"I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating," she wrote.

2. Elisabeth Moss

Moss was only married to Fred Armisen for less than a year, but it still left its mark.

"Looking back, I feel like I was really young, and at the time I didn't think that I was that young," she told Vulture.

"It was extremely traumatic and awful and horrible," she continued.

Tell us how you really feed, Elisabeth! Meanwhile, Fred has gone on the record to say that he was a "terrible husband."

Divorce was clearly the best option for these two.

3. Renée Zellweger

In case you forgot, the actress was married to country singer Kenny Chesney for 128 days.

Their marriage was annulled four months in with "fraud" was cited as the reason. Zellweger has even referred to their marriage as “the biggest personal mistake of my life.”

4. Katie Holmes

The star was married to Tom Cruise in 2006. Following their split in 2012, Suri and Katie moved to New York.

"That time was intense. It was a lot of attention, and I had a little child on top of it. We had some funny moments out and about in public."

5. Ben Affleck

The Batman actor was married to Jennnifer Garner for 10 years before their 2015 separation.

In 2020, he opened up to the New York Times about the divorce. "The biggest regret of my life is this divorce," he told the publication.

"Shame is really toxic. There is no positive byproduct of shame," he continued. "It's just stewing in a toxic, hideous feeling of low self-worth and self-loathing."

He also opened up about his alcoholism and how it affected their marriage.

6. Brad Pitt

The actor's relationship with Angelina Jolie was filled with headlines from start to finish.

In 2017, he opened up to GQ Style about their messy divorce and how his alcoholism contributed to it.

9. Jessica Simpson

The singer has called her divorce to Nick Lachey like "a death in the family."

This pushed her into the different stages of grief. "You go through the mourning stage, then the rebellion, and then all of a sudden you have to find life by yourself," she told Glamour.

Since she and Nick were married so young and had the pressures of a reality show, this also weighed heavily on their relationship.

“We worked and we were great at it but when it came time to being alone, we weren’t great at it anymore," she wrote in her memoir, Open Book.

10. Jennifer Aniston

NBC

After Brad Pitt publically left her for Angelina Jolie, she was forced to pick up the pieces.

"I wish it weren't in front of the world. I try really hard to rise above it."

Aww, Jen! We're so glad time heals all wounds.

11. Nicole Kidman

In case you forgot, Nicole was married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001.
