16+ Nutty Ideas That Somehow Turned Out OK

Not only have we been told that looks can be deceiving but we can often see that confirmed for us just by going through daily life.

And that seems to go double when we compare what we think looks awesome to what actually turns out to work the best for us. For instance, it's not likely that too many people would have predicted that they'd rather play Among Us than Cyberpunk 2077 but it's probably a pretty common feeling right now when you consider how those respective games turned out.

And if you're looking for a less niche example of this phenomenon, each of the things on this list are united by how much better they worked out than it seemed they had a right to.

It's nothing new for a tall building to feature a trippy glass floor but this has to be the first time I've seen the same principle applied to swimming pools.

And even if this setup is perfectly safe, I can already tell you that there's no chance I'd be able to feel that way if I waded in there.

As long as they still do the job, I suppose there's nothing stopping someone from doing this with their tail lights.

Well, I doubt this is a cheap modification so I suppose that's a barrier. But let's say you won the lottery tomorrow.

You may not put "run lol" on your brake lights but I bet it would hard to resist the temptation to write something.

Apparently, a chocolate hammer is how this hotel apologizes when the internet goes out or the guests experience a different inconvenience.

I'm guessing they went with a hammer because they're trying to fix things between us?

Look, if somebody gives me a hammer made of solid chocolate, I'm not going to ask too many questions about what it's supposed to mean.

Although this idea didn't quite turn out how this person wanted, it still led them to discover something.

Apparently, if you try to put a rose in resin, it will immediately turn brown like it experienced an entire drought in seconds.

The uploader figures this is due to a lack of oxygen.

You would normally see a scene like this when someone is overwhelmed with rage at their project not working out.

However, this is one is actually going according to plan.

It turns out that this person didn't want to let their tools get buried under all the plaster they were using so they just attached them various nails sticking out of the wall.

It's a good thing I'm not a gambling man because I definitely would have bet against this and lost.

Even if I allowed that the lawnmower works just as fine on snow as it does on grass, I still would've expected that box to crumple too much to effectively plow anything.

It seems I've been proven wrong, though.

If it seems like it would be really hard to tighten something with this, then you've illustrated why that isn't what the uploader used it for.

Instead, they used this little invention to make sure their dishwasher was level. And since that doesn't describe either their floor or their counter tops, it turns out the pole wrench here helped a lot.

While I've seen people use a cordless drill as a makeshift egg beater before, this idea is a new one on me.

You might be wondering what the fork is supposed to do and the answer is that it apparently turns this drill into a paint mixer.

There are a lot of ways you can customize your phone case but this guy seems to have them all beat.

He promoted it as a way to keep one's Air Pods on them but this converted Altoid case is just as effective at carrying cough drops, dental floss, and gift cards among other things.

This scene can be explained by the uploader's short, bittersweet story.

As they tell it, "Door stopper broke, repair requested. No repair. Hole in the wall. Repair requested. No repair. We made lemonade."

Well, the landlord can't say these people didn't warn them before they came up with this handy bungee cord contraption.

If you're wondering what purpose this chain is supposed to serve, that means it's working just fine.

Apparently, this chair was stuck firmly in the recline position before the uploader kept it in place as we can see here.

If you're wondering what we could possibly be looking at here, the answer is "an alarm system."

It's a pretty unorthodox approach but it's also true that burglars are usually at their least nervous when things are nice and quiet.

And considering how much rattling this is likely to make, it's hard to see why they'd want to hang around.

This toilet paper holder wasn't working out so somebody put it through a bit of a redesign.

While it's certainly interesting to see a vertical dispenser, I'd have to see how easy it is to make a clean rip between squares before I give it my full endorsement.

The maker of this device tends to have their hands full around the job site.

So by putting this spray paint can in a pipe and attaching a belt clip to the results, they were able to lighten their load a little bit.

Before this adjustment, we'd probably see these groceries littered all over the back of the pickup.

But after a hearty "hold my beer," one clever husband got some ratchet straps together and found a way to keep them in place.

The quality of the photo kind of makes it hard to tell what this person used as a cupholder but it's certainly big enough.

The most likely answer is that this was made of styrofoam but that doesn't stop me from making myself think they went to the trouble of drilling these massive holes in a block of cement.

The most bizarre thing about this box of cigars concerns what's written on the sign taped to it.

If you don't recall seeing any law that made 40 the minimum age to purchase cigars, you'd be correct.

However, this smoke shop is apparently next to a high school and this was the management's way of making sure no students even try to use a fake ID.

This decal is a clever idea executed well, but it's also one that folks would need to be careful about.

As one commenter put it, "How to un-potty train a child in one easy step!"

I guess it's fair to say that this is only cute when we're old enough to not see it as a legitimate possibility.

Even if somebody stole that sign, we'd know what kind of place this was thanks to this botanical flourish.

If my years of internet browsing have taught me anything it's that the more things that dentists can add teeth to, the happier they are.

For a split second, I think a lot of our brains would be convinced that a giant cat is actually peeking at us through a big hole in the wall.

I guess what I'm saying is that this decal is crisp and detailed enough to make us question reality. I think that's pretty high praise.
