The inauguration ceremony for President Joe Biden on January 20 was monumental for many people in many ways, and certainly not least of which for fans of Lady Gaga, who had the honor of singing the national anthem for all of those in attendance and watching virtually.
A photograph of an interaction between Gaga and one person in particular in attendance, former Vice President Mike Pence, has gone viral.
Some fans even went so far as to call it the best performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" of all time, and I would have to say that I totally understand why! She sounded absolutely fantastic.
Gaga looked absolutely gorgeous in a dark, form-fitting long-sleeve upper half with a brightly colored wide skirt, but many fans noticed her large gold dove accessory and made comparisons to the film series, The Hunger Games.
She showcased a close-up shot of the bird, revealing that it was actually a dove of peace! What a beautiful gesture!
More than her outfit or her performance, though, people noticed a moment caught on film between her and former Vice President Mike Pence.
After harsh criticism of Pence, many fans found it both entertaining and awkward that this photograph of Gaga reaching for her golden microphone directly in front of Pence went viral.
"Watching Mike Pence stand behind @ladygaga just now, was as awkward as Trump and Melania's dance at the inaugural ball in 2016," tweeted one fan.
Some fans also felt that Gaga was being shady by not looking at Pence in the photo, with one fan writing, "Lady Gaga avoiding eye contacting with lying bigot Mike Pence was the shade I didn’t know I needed to see today."
However, upon looking more closely at the full photo, it's clear that Pence was standing beside the person who was handing the microphone to Gaga.
Still, many fans of Lady Gaga loved the moment and even said they wanted the photograph framed.
"Mike Pence standing next to Lady Gaga as she is singing the national anthem is one of the most amazing moments in American history," one fan tweeted about the moment.
Of course, it's almost impossible to tell from the pictures what either of them were actually thinking in that moment, but it's definitely fun to try to imagine!
