15+ Pics That Showed Us Everyday Things Like We've Never Seen Them Before

When we get used to seeing things a certain way, it's easy to get jaded about them. While there's something comforting and reliable in the ordinary, that doesn't mean most people you meet would like to be described that way.

After all, the ordinary fades into the background, the ordinary is taken for granted, the ordinary is often not even worth mentioning.

But while our perception of the ordinary is often reinforced on a daily basis, it can also be surprisingly fragile. As we're about to see, you don't have to change things that much to suddenly make them stand out.

Although I suppose you could say we're looknig at a picture of a rock, there's a lot more to this photo than that.

After all, how many rocks have you come across that happened to have the right conditions for a clam to grow inside of them?

All that came together to give one moon snail a much sturdier house than it's likely to find anywhere else.

There's a surprise that comes with this potato masher, but it's a welcome one.

You might have noticed that the mesh part of the masher folds into the rest of it and that apparently stops it from getting stuck inside of drawers.

When we don't take things for granted, we give ourselves room to make them better.

If it bothers you when a book's pages get dog-eared, I'm not sure we're likely to find a book you'd hate more than this.

Apparently, this page happened to fold during the cutting part of the publishing process, which means that the weird angle that we see on this page was never cut out.

So now, it pretty much has to be folded like this.

When we catch sight of a scene like this, we can find ourselves having more trouble than we'd expect to trust our memories.

For instance, have we always seen frogs leave such strong imprints when they hop on the rocks next to a pond? Or is this just possible because this was a particularly large, wet frog?

It's one of those things that we never cared to think about before, but that now suddenly bothers us when we don't have a concrete answer.

A pile of hair ties would probably be beneath our notice under normal circusmtances but it's hard not to be suspcious and concerned about seeing them arranged like this.

Fortunately, I don't think this was supposed to be evidence of a brutal crime or the result of someone's unsettling stalking when this appeared on Craigslist.

Instead, it's apparently just a board showing off someone's collection of hair ties as well as descriptions detailing when and where they found them. It's still hard not to feel weird about it, though. Particularly since we don't know why they listed this on the site.

If this school whiteboard was displaying any other day in any other year, it would hard to find anything to say about it.

But because this was what a substitute teacher faced on the day they returned to class, it suddenly took on an oddly creepy and post-apocalyptic tone for them.

After all, they had set these letters up themselves on the last day they taught before the emergence of the pandemic. It's like this part of the world completely stopped for close to a year.

I know that the makers of wax statues can be very hit-miss in how they capture celebrity likenesses, but that doesn't make this sight any less jarring.

If anyone out there is disappointed that they didn't make a Seinfeld animated series, I'm sorry to tell you that this is probably what it would've looked like.

If you look at this and wonder what store sells individually wrapped processed cheese slices, it turns out there are actually a lot of them.

While a sight like this might not be out of place at a widely-attended cookout, it's apparently a common one in grocery stores throughout Central America.

We can see at the bottom of the photo that this isn't how all cheese is sold, but the big packages of slices we're used to apparently aren't such hot sellers down there.

You may not have ever felt the need to adjust a guitar's tones with eyeballs but one person did for just long enough to place a custom order.

And once he sobered up, he realized that he's just going to have to live with what he bought. At least it makes his guitar look eccentric, I guess.

We're certainly not used to seeing a car's spoiler made from utility pipes but that's not the only thing about this photo that left people puzzled.

Thanks to the quality of the photo, it looks a lot like that sign expects people to pay $129 for a Little Caesar's pizza.

However, it's worth noting that this price is apparently written in pesos, which means it translates to about $6.45 in American dollars. That makes a little more sense.

There's a charming community of people who make big extensions on their furbies, but I don't think there's a more elaborate example of the phenomenon than this thing.

Long furbies are all well and good, but this might be giving one of those little critters too much power.

But if that super furby seemed both unnerving and cute to you, you'll probably get a kick out of one artist's work.

As you can see, she enjoys making "weird friends" by taking multiple different stuffed animals and then stitching them together to create all new creatures like Whisper here.

My favorite part is definitely her shrugging arms.

I have to admit that somebody nailed the metal aesthetic on this toilet despite being aware of how ridiculous a sentence that is.

And while it's hard take our eyes off the flaming demon guy, did someone cut a tire in half to make the seat?

I'm not sure how I feel about that.

But while I was oddly impressed with that toilet, I think the merits of this jacket speak for themselves.

While I've seen people sew all sorts of strange things onto the backs of leather jackets, this is the first time I've seen someone cut into the jacket itself to bring their design to life.

It's cool looking, it's elaborate, and it clearly took a lot of skill and effort to pull off. What's not to love?

I have to admit, this seems like such a rare sight to me that I thought we were looking at some odd syringe at first.

But in reality, this is simply what it looks like when you manage to use absolutely every drop of ink that's in a ballpoint pen.

I don't know how they managed to keep it from clumping like we see in most pens that suddenly stop working.

While most of what we've seen has been weird, the way somebody split this wood is just immensely satisfying.

I wouldn't be surprised if most people go their whole lives without ever making or even seeing a break this clean. It looks like you could just lift the core out.

It may not be so unusual to see someone try and dry out a soaked encyclopedia they found, but something about this book left them with a big surprise.

Upon close inspection, they found that this was published in 1929, making it almost 100 years old.

Kinda makes you wonder why someone just left it out in the woods, doesn't it?

Believe it or not, we're looking at the inside of a 7-Eleven right now.

It's just that it loses a lot of its familiar appeal when you take away the signs, products, and people working there.

Now it looks like those jewelry stores we see in movies soon after somebody pulled a heist.

If you think memes are getting bizarre and abstract, it's probably worth knowing that it turns out the ancient Romans had a weird sense of humor, too.

I know that looking back at ancient civilizations tends to invite serious examinations of how they rise and fell, but those civilizations had people in them who liked to make absurd things when they were bored just like we do.

Of all the bizarre things that we've seen today, this one feels the most wrong to me for some reason.

Pringles have firmly implanted their brand as the makers of chips that come in cardboard tubes in our minds.

So to see them packaged in a bag like any other chip company makes me feel like I'm in bizarro world.
