Canadian Mounties Chop Firewood For Elderly Woman Burning Furniture to Keep Warm

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) came to one elderly woman's rescue when she found herself in a truly difficult situation.

During a fierce snow season, she found herself alone and at high risk of freezing, so in a desperate attempt to keep warm, she began burning her household furniture.

Thankfully, she wasn't alone for long.

It was a matter of life and death for Mounties in British Columbia to lend a hand.

As Global News reported, the B.C. Mounties received an emergency call to help paramedics attend to an elderly man in need of medical assistance. After he was taken to the hospital, they decided to pay his wife, who was still at home, a visit.

When they arrived at the couple's house, they found the man's wife breaking their furniture apart and attempting to burn it in their wood stove to keep warm.

The responding RCMP officers took it upon themselves to save the woman from the cold, and her furniture from the oven.

After seeing the her in such a terrible predicament, these B.C. Mounties decided to gather more troops and headed back out into the cold to collect firewood for her to burn to keep her home warm.

They made sure that she didn't have to lift a finger.

Not only did they gather firewood, they also chopped it, stacked it, and set up a cozy fire for her to relax next to.

It was truly and act of kindness that went beyond the necessary call of duty.

These officers wanted to show the power of helping out.

It would seem that these troops were trying to inspire a domino effect that would encourage others to pay it forward with benevolent deeds and community outreach.

“We hope this small act of kindness encourages other British Columbians to step up, reach out to those around them and help out where they can," Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the B.C. RCMP’s Southeast District, said in a statement.
