'Free Britney' Petition Has Over 120,000 Signatures

Fans are getting a closer look at the life and career of pop princess, Britney Spears.

While the battles with her father's conservatorship over her have been made public, the new documentary, titled Framing Britney Spears, offers fans a new perspective on life for the 39-year-old.

Now, fans have started a petition to free Britney from her longtime conservatorship.

As you may have heard, the "New York Times" documentary, *Framing Britney Spears*, debuted on Hulu and FX this past weekend.

The documentary focuses on Britney's conservatorship and the increasingly popular #FreeBritney movement on social media.

Britney's fans will remember her father's conservatorship over her began back in 2008 when the singer was dealing with serious mental health struggles.

Conservatorship arrangements are normally reserved for people with severely diminished ability to make decisions for themselves.

These arrangements are meant to be temporary, however, the now 39-year-old has remained under court-ordered control much longer than expected.

It's been over 12 years since Britney has been able to have control over her life, career, and finances.

Now, fans are taking matters into their own hands with their petition to free Britney from conservatorship.

The "Free Britney" petition has garnered over 100,000 signatures from concerned fans.

"You see the hashtag. Our beloved princess of pop, Britney Spears has been under a conservatorship since 2008," the petition reads.

"It’s time she takes back control of her life and gets rid of all those manipulative, controlling, deceiving, money hungry & malicious people that are under her... "

"Her father doesn’t allow her to drive, all of her calls & messages are monitored, she’s not allowed to vote, hang with anyone or spend her money without permission. And if she breaks a “rule” he threatens to have her kids taken away!"

The petition concluded: "Abuse in power in conservatorships is often rampant and easy to cover up. Where there is smoke there is fire. #FreeBritney."
