When we have to go to work, we don't want to deal with anything other than the job at hand. No extra drama, nothing. Getting attacked by an unruly customer is something you definitely don't expect.
This is exactly what happened to Yasmine James on New Years Eve during her shift at a St. Petersburg, Florida McDonald's. Let's just say 41-year-old Daniel Taylor didn't expect what he had coming after assaulting Yasmine.
Video was taken by an onlooker as Taylor approached the counter. Another customer, Brenda Biandudi, describes what happened.
"He was yelling and walking toward the counter and the young lady behind the counter told him that it’s the law now that we’re not allowed to have straws in the lobby."
That's when all hell broke loose.
A new law in St. Petersburgh prohibits restaurants to put plastic straws out in the lobby. Somehow, Taylor lost it because of this.
Now that you know how the confrontation started, let's take a look at the footage.
Some people are criticizing the manager seen in the video for not intervening earlier, given the nature of a larger man assaulting a young woman.
As we can see from the video, though, Yasmine James had no problem defending herself. I'm guessing that was a bit of a rude awakening for Mr. Taylor.
The message read as follows:
"Our highest priority is always the safety and well-being of our employees and customers at our restaurants. We have been in contact with the police department and are fully cooperating with their investigation."
Daniel Taylor was arrested and served New Years Day in jail and James was not fired for defending herself.
