16+ Super Awkward Moments You Might Have Missed From The 2019 Oscars

Every award show has its cringe-worthy, awkward moments that the media loves to dissect and poke fun at, and if you thought this article was going to be any different, I'm sorry to inform you that it will not. I am going to do just that.

I personally live for people-watching, and chortling at the misfortunes of others. Especially if they're celebrities, because:

  1. I'm jealous of their fame and riches.

  2. Watching those that are seemingly flawless make regular, human mistakes, is a gentle reminder that no one is perfect, and

  3. It's hilarious, and you know it.

To kick things off on a super awkward note, they didn't have a host.

Because of all the sort of last-minute Kevin Hart drama, this year's Academy Awards show was very obviously host-less.

Incase you missed why Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting the Oscars:

Some of his older, less evolved, homophobic tweets surfaced right after he was chosen to host the Oscars. Naturally there was public outrage, and he announced he was stepping down from that role.

I digress. Someone called Octavia Spencer's red carpet look "body positive."

This would normally be an okay comment to make if she was actually trying to make a statement about body positivity.

But she was just wearing an A-line dress that she thought she looked good in. No hidden agenda.

It probably would have been more appropriate to just say she looked nice in navy blue, or something.

Ryan Seacrest used his Macy's suit line for the millionth time.

Ryan has his own line of suits at Macy's, and he never misses a chance to advertise that at award shows.

He uses award shows as plug opportunities, and it's very awkward to listen to.

Joe Alwyn completely dodged a question about Taylor Swift, and it wasn't slick whatsoever.

It couldn't have been more obvious that he was trying to avoid talking about T-Swift.

It's really no secret that they're together, and have been for a while now. So I'm not sure what he was trying to hide.

Richard E. Grant said a joke that went completely over Ryan Seacrest's head.

The joke clearly did not hit.

It took Ryan a solid 13 seconds to come to and realize that Richard was kidding.

Sam Elliott refused to tell Ryan Seacrest what Bradley Cooper once cooked for him.

Ryan asked Sam how he and Bradley met, and Sam said that he made him a meal. So, in keeping with the conversation, Ryan asks what Bradley cooked for him, and Sam said: "I'm not gonna tell you what he made."

Okay then.

I have questions.

Ashley Graham asked Jason Momoa to do the Haka and he refused.

To be completely fair, I wouldn't really know what to do with myself in front of Jason Momoa either.

Kudos to Ashley for only reaching a level two on the awkward scale. I'm pretty sure none of us would have done any better in her shoes.

This very uncomfortable looking handshake, half-hug, face-tap situation?

I don't even know what this is?

What I do know is that they both looked very awkward doing it, and it was physically uncomfortable for me to watch.

Bradley Cooper couldn't hear anything he was being asked.

E! News

At least he's being honest.

Whenever I can't hear what someone is saying I just smile, nod, and hope for the best.

Nobody bothered to tell Rami Malek to adjust his bow tie before walking the red carpet.

Everyone who was watching this at home just wanted to reach into their TV and adjust his tie ever so slightly.

Obviously this wasn't a big deal. But we all noticed, and it bothered us more than it probably should.

Spike Lee was really unimpressed when Awkwafina told everyone how excited she was to meet him.

While Awkwafina and John Mulaney were on stage presenting, and they asked each other who they were most excited to meet at the Oscars.

Awkwafina name dropped Spike Lee, the camera panned over to him, and this was his facial reaction.

Eek!

This was Awkwafina's face after seeing Spike Lee's reaction.

She had no choice but to accept the L and move on.

Her face really says it all.

The crew from "Vice" accepting the award for best hair and makeup had some major difficulties getting words out.

This was the most unbearable thing to watch.

Lots of awkward pauses, accidentally speaking at the same time, whispering to each other what to say, and then to top it all off, they got played off stage for taking too long.

If there's one thing we know now, it's that they're great with hair and makeup, and not-so-great with acceptance speeches.

Pharrell wore shorts.

Need I say more?

It's a black tie event, and Pharrell looks like he's going anywhere but the Oscars.

This outfit is some kind of suit, army uniform, private school uniform hybrid. I really don't know what to make of it.

A "Green Book" producer's mic cut out while he dedicated his Oscar to Carrie Fisher.

In an otherwise very touching moment, the Oscar winner was attempting to dedicate his win to the late, great Carrie Fisher, when his mic unexpectedly cut out.

The viewers at home could hear, but the people in the audience couldn't.

Ryan Seacrest dropping hints to Spike Lee.

Ryan casually joking to Spike Lee that he's going to send him his reel.

We know you're not joking at all, Ryan. Nice try!

Giuliana Rancic telling Bradley Cooper that "A Star Is Born" made her fall more in love with her husband.

Then she asked how that made him feel, and Bradley's response caused me to feel incredible amounts of secondhand embarrassment for Giuliana.

“We all just try to work so hard and never give up... but other than that I don’t know.” he said.

When Olivia Coleman won Best Actress instead of Glenn Close.

The only reason this was awkward is because we all thought Glenn Close was going to win, no questions asked.

The shocked look on everyone's faces were priceless.

And then she even brought it up in her acceptance speech.

Even Olivia knew that Glenn was wronged, and way overdue to win an Academy Award.

What an upset that was.

Spike Lee's reaction to "Green Book" winning Best Picture.

Spike Lee just looked so intolerant of everything, all night long.

But when Green Book won Best Picture, he looked visibly angry.

When he was later asked about his thoughts on the win, he had to hold himself back from saying something impolite.

Irina Shayk sat between Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.

This is only awkward because the rest of the world is hoping that Gaga and Bradley hook up, and there's no doubt that Irina knows exactly what everyone's thinking.

It's very possible that Irina isn't a huge fan of Bradley and Gaga's onscreen and onstage chemistry.

If that isn't the case, she definitely could have fooled us with the glare she was giving them during their performance.

Last, but certainly not least, Rami Malek falling off stage.

His crooked bow tie doesn't hold a candle to this.

After accepting his Oscar win for his role of Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhaposdy, he was so excited that he literally fell off the stage.
