New Moms Are Embracing Their 'Mesh Underwear' In These Raw Photos

If you've recently given birth or about to become a mom, then you've probably heard of the legendary mesh underwear.

If not, let me fill you in. After giving birth, many hospitals, midwives, and doulas come prepared with mesh underwear for the newly postpartum mom. This stretchy and absorbent underwear helps catch all the afterbirth and bleeding.

Thanks to social media, many new moms have decided to embrace mesh underwear as the unofficial uniform of postpartum life and I'm loving it.

This is postpartum life.

This mom posted a raw photo of herself at six days postpartum and said that people commented that she still looked pregnant. It just goes to show that people are so unaware when it comes to the reality of postpartum life.

Celebrating what a mom's body can do.

Besides showing the reality of postpartum life, these photos also celebrate postpartum bodies. Instead of focusing on "baby weight", they celebrate the strength of new moms.

Those first few snuggles are the most special.

There's nothing quite like holding your baby for the first time and feeling the rollercoaster of emotions. It's a special time, but it can also be draining as you're trying to recover yourself.

Loving the post-birth bump.

I find it amazing that so many people still don't realize that it takes weeks for the uterus to shrink down to its original size and that it's completely normal to have a bump for weeks or months after giving birth.

Before and after birth

It is always such a surreal moment when you realize that your baby was inside you just a few days ago. When you're pregnant, it feels like it takes forever to meet your baby, and then you look back on it and feel like it went by so quickly.

Loving this "mom-bod"!

For many, embracing their postpartum bodies can be a struggle but a lot of new moms take this opportunity to practice self-love and body positivity.

Even celebs love rocking the mesh undies.

Chrissy Teigen posted this picture shortly after the birth of her son, Miles. Taking a cue from comedian Ali Wong, she called her mesh undies "asian pear underwear".

Kristen Bell also shared this photo of her mesh undies from when she gave birth to her daughter, Delta.

Every mama knows this pose and it's so cool to see that Dax was a super supportive birth partner.

Capturing the moment.

Those first few hours of postpartum life are usually a little hazy to say the least. Taking a quick selfie in the bathroom (complete with mesh undies, of course) is one way to remember this journey.

Does this look familiar to any other moms out there?

I feel like this was my go-to postpartum outfit during my first few weeks at home with my son. Nursing bra? Check. Mesh panties? Check. Mom bun? Check, check, check.
