Vanessa Hudgens Reveals Relationship With Zac Efron Almost Ruined 'High School Musical'

Zac Efron. Vanessa Hudgens. Two names. One very iconic relationship.

Honestly, it feels like just yesterday High School Musical came out and changed the world. Basketball and musical theater were finally two worlds at peace, and all felt right in the world.

Of course, part of what made these movies so ~magical~ was the on-screen turned off-screen romance between Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez.

Also known as Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens.

Look at them. So ruddy and pubescent. 2006 was wild.

Now Vanessa and Zac are in their '30s and have since moved on into more stable and _emotionally mature relationships.

Vanessa loves to remind everyone she is in a very happy and festival-heavy relationship with Austin Butler, and has been for ages.

But in a recent interview with the "Awards Chatter" podcast, Vanessa took us on a stroll down memory lane.

The two began dating "really organically" she said.

"I could not have been more grateful to have that relationship at the time.”

Let's not forget what a breakout hit High School Musical was and how it came outta nowhere for these literal babies.

Vanessa continued, "it’s just a really weird foreign thing to go through."

"By being in a relationship, it kind of kept me stabilized and grounded, and I had someone to lean on who was going through it as well."

However, mixing business and pleasure is often a mistake (srry not srry) and Vanessa recalls one time her and Zac were fighting so much they feared the movie wouldn't be made.

“I remember one time we did have a fight and it was while we were at rehearsals, and I remember (director) Kenny Ortega coming around the corner with the most concerned look on his face like, ‘Oh no, is our movie going to fall apart?'”
