Moschino And Sephora Are Being Accused Of Copying This Makeup Brand's Ideas

It seems that more and more these days we keep finding people who are copying others ideas. There was Virgil Abloh who was copying from young designers for Off-White and then there's pretty much anything from the Kardashian-Jenner clan.

Now, it seems, Jeremy Scott and his label Moschino have been caught red-handed for copying.

The Moschino + Sephora collection was officially released on April 25th, 2019.

The collection was announced by the fashion brand's creative director on his Instagram earlier this month.

It was also announced that all of the products would be available online and in-stores across Canada and the US.

The makeup collection is office themed.

Many of the pieces in Moschino's collection look just like office supplies.

For example, makeup brushes look like pencils, makeup sponges look like erasers and a makeup palette that resembles a laptop.

After the release, people quickly noticed that there was something oddly familiar about the collection.

It appears that many of the products in Moschino's collection look eerily similar to the branding for makeup brand The Crayon Case.

The Crayon Case is a makeup brand that was first launched in early 2017.

The cosmetics line was founded by entrepreneur Raynell Supacent" Steward a.k.a. Wuzzam Supa, whose first claim to fame was making viral videos on social media.

When followers kept asking about her makeup routine, Steward decided to start her own makeup line, The Crayon Case.

The Crayon Case was an instant hit in the beauty community and they went viral late last year when they hit $1 million in sales in just 2 hours.

The Instagram page @Diet_Prada is known for calling out copy-cat designs and flagged Moschino's collection.

In the post, they said, "Is it possible that Moschino’s SS19 marker collection birthed the inspiration for this collaboration? Maybe, but it’s hard to fathom with so much overlap."

They then rated Moschino's designs a B- for execution and an F for originality.

Yikes.

People online immediately alerted Steward about the copying.

Fans all across social media tagged Steward in different posts and offered their words of encouragement.

Steward spoke on the matter in a comment on Instagram saying, "I'll be ok. We all can make money but god sits high. [I'm] extremely blessed."

Steward has since spoken to the media about the incident.

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Steward revealed how she truly felt about being copied and said, "I was very devastated, to be honest."

On the bright side, Steward says every time the collection gets posted, people tag her brand and her sales go up.

It seems this time being copied is actually good for business.
