Man Fills Property With Thousands Of Flower So Blind Wife Can Smile Again

When a couple gets married, they make a vow to stay with each other in loving support when life starts to get difficult. Generally, this is covered by the "for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health" part of the traditional vow, but life can find new ways to challenge us all the time.

Naturally, these vows are easier to make than they are to keep and some married couples do reach a point where they can't continue together any further. But when a marriage remains strong and loving through the toughest of times, it seems like there's nothing that can't be overcome.

And one man in Japan found a beautiful way to help his wife through a truly trying experience.

Since 1956, the couple identified as Mr. and Mrs. Kuroki have lived together in Shintomi, a town in Japan's Miyazaki Prefecture.

According to SoraNews24 the couple worked hard tending to 60 cows here and face all of the challenges and rewards of farm life.

By the late 1980s, however, life took a sad turn for Mrs. Kuroki.

As HuffPost reported, she contracted diabetes and complications from the disease would eventually render her blind.

This took a heavy emotional toll on the then-52-year-old and she withdrew from public life.

For Mr. Kuroki, seeing this change in his wife was heartbreaking.

As SoraNews24 reported, he figured she might find some joy in her life again if she had visitors.

It wasn't until he noticed a pink shibazakura flower growing on their property, however, that he was inspired to think of a way to attract them.

Not to mention, he figured that the flowers would not only be pretty to look at, but nice to smell as well.

Once he got this idea, he spent about two years clearing space for the flower garden and tending to what would turn out to be thousands of young plants.

Mr. Kuroki's hard work would eventually pay off as those plants blossomed into a lush field of the pink flowers.

Although he had successfully brought the beautiful array to life, even he wouldn't have expected how people would respond a decade after he started planting.

Word of the garden spread throughout neighboring towns and even into other prefectures and Mr. Kuroki now regularly receives the visitors he was hoping to attract.

As SoraNews24 reported, it's not unusual for the garden to receive 7,000 visitors a day in late March and April.

And as far as anyone can tell, it seems that Mr. Kuroki has achieved the most important part of his plan.

Not only has Mrs. Kuroki no longer sequestered herself in their house, but visitors often see her with a big smile on her face.
