16+ Creepy Things People Stumbled Upon In The Woods

When we were kids, there was something peaceful about walking through the woods. There was usually nobody around but my grandma and since I really liked horsing around with sticks as a kid, the woods were the perfect place to be.

As we get older, however, we become very aware of the fact that other people have also noticed how isolated they are when they're walking through the woods. For some of these people, that means there aren't any witnesses to whatever nefarious deeds or bizarre rituals they've got going on.

And if we ever had any doubts that everything happening in the forest was above board, those doubts were quickly confirmed whenever we saw anything like the bizarre clues we're about to behold in these photos.

This isn't as bad as finding the pig head in Lord of the Flies, but I can't imagine finding many volunteers willing to touch this thing.

After all, it seems like exactly the thing you'd bump into before setting off somebody's forest trap.

Besides, "the creepier the doll head, the more sadistic the trap," seems like a good rule of thumb.

I'm not sure we even want to know what this is supposed to be.

Reddit | h3xxya

At least we won't have to wonder why somebody dropped a toilet in the middle of the woods. This scene would make even less sense without it.

I guess it's easier to exercise when you have some nice scenery to look at, but this seems like an odd thing to forget here once your workout's over.

Reddit | Hijae

It's either that or somebody decided to leave Bigfoot a present that was lowkey insulting.

I mean, he spends all day running through the woods and dodging hunters and photographers. He probably doesn't need this.

It's hard to think of a non-disturbing reason why these garments would be hanging here.

Reddit | matystroia

Since there isn't any water nearby, it seems unlikely that anyone was skinny dipping. I can't be the only one expecting Leatherface to pop out of this scene, right?

Well, at least we'd hear his chainsaw before we saw him.

Sometimes, it's not what you find, but where you find it that raises a couple of eyebrows.

Reddit | Biggith-Borris

This would barely be noticeable in somebody's yard, but unless it's sitting next to some hidden treasure, it's hard to picture what it's doing out here.

It's always fascinating when someone goes to the trouble of sculpting a statue only to leave it in some nondescript woods where almost nobody will see it.

Reddit | shinslap

And that's especially true when the artist has presumably spent months lovingly rendering the image of somebody taking a dump.

This isn't the kind of environment where you'd normally find an octopus, so somebody must have left this dead one here.

Reddit | the_comatorium

Stranger still, the uploader said this area was marked off, so either somebody took the risk just to leave an octopus behind or they marked off this special area just for the creature.

Either way, I don't understand the motivations here.

Other than the skeleton and the lack of a roof, this actually looks like a pretty cozy living room.

Reddit | Consiliarius

Not only that, but there's actually an explanation for this one. The uploader said this was near an old railway line and had a sign saying "Waiting Room" posted near it.

As far as they can tell, somebody found a really elaborate way to make fun of British railway systems.

Oh, good. If there's one thing that a dismembered doll really needed, it was clown makeup.

Reddit | MrDrTerrible

The only thing luckier than winning the lottery is coming across this thing without ever meeting the person who put it there.

After all, the uploader may not have survived to post this photo if that person was still lurking around.

This wouldn't be the most welcome sight for anyone who just finished watching IT: Chapter 2.

Reddit | krillokrokodil

If it's any consolation, this probably wasn't left here by a killer clown. After balloons float away, they eventually lose enough helium to drift back down.

Whatever misgivings we might have about that bone, however, it's nothing compared to this unsettling scene.

Reddit | hatchety

Apparently, this was a livestock dumping sight, but it seems unlikely that the farmers arranged this into the weird, ritualistic pattern we see here.

Hopefully, this is just the handiwork of bored kids trying to be edgy.

Interestingly, the problem that people have with this project isn't the creepy carving.

Reddit | Proteon

Instead, they're worried that the artist stripped enough bark around this tree to essentially doom it to death. It makes the the carved figure even gloomier, really.

This is one of the only situations where we'd actually hope we've come across a creepy mannequin in a dog mask.

Reddit | mikejclark

Otherwise, it would be hard not to think we've stumbled on an actual kidnapping victim and to get paranoid that the person responsible was watching us all along.

No snail gets this weirdly colorful all on its own.

Reddit | SuperNerdyGamers

That's not to say that somebody painted it, though that would also be strange. Instead, this is the work of a Leucochloridium.

According to Wired, this parasitic worm invades a snail's eye stalks and makes them look and act like caterpillars so the snail will get noticed and eaten by birds.

At this point, it almost seems like a forest doesn't officially become a forest until somebody hangs the pieces of a doll they disassembled in it.

Reddit | GoldfishMoving

I can only imagine that somebody shook their head with disappointment once they realized this forest was unsullied by anything's piercing, plastic gaze and knew they had to do something.

Oddly enough, the fact that somebody left a bunch of skulls on this abandoned church isn't as scary as it sounds.

Reddit

And the reason for that and for why this area isn't marked off with police tape right now is that these skulls never came from any human.

They look like they were cut from stone, but the uploader thinks they might actually be some kind of plaster.

It's not uncommon for hunters to leave a desired skull hanging until nature cleans it, but this is a little more unusual.

Reddit | kimberlyann_92

As we've already seen, animal skulls can have some fascinating aesthetic value to them. This random, apparently very large bone hanging around, however?

That kinda raises more questions than we can answer.

It may be carrying a friendly frog umbrella, but it would still be pretty startling to come across.

Reddit | The-Real-BamBam

Not in the least because it's hard to identify what exactly we're looking at. It's like an enemy from a video game that never made it to release.

Elmo has nothing but love in his heart, but I'm not sure we can say the same for whoever did this.

Reddit | Televison

I'm not sure what on this earth could avoid looking sinister after somebody hangs a bunch of them from a tree.

Maybe Garfield? He's a little too lazy to menace anybody.

Although there are more unusual sights to be found in the woods than a skull, this was a fairly unusual one.

Reddit | MarKo9

Apparently, it belongs to a loggerhead turtle, but that also begs the question as to where the rest of it is.
