33-Year-Old Mom Ditches Hair Dye To Embrace Her Gray Hair

Have you started noticing some gray in your hair? That can be a traumatic experience for some. It's a hard change, especially when it happens at a young age. We don't expect to see younger people with gray hair. Am I right?

But that's exactly what happened to this 33-year-old mom. Read on to find out how she finally embraced this fact and is living life to the fullest.

Alex Duvall, from California, started noticing gray in her hair at the tender age of 17.

Wow, that's pretty early, huh? As it turns out, both her parents turned gray at an early age, so she pretty much expected it to happen to her at some point, too.

However, even though she was expecting it, she wasn't ready to give in.

Instead, she started dyeing her hair habitually. In fact, she used to spend around $500 at a salon to get her hair done about once a month.

She literally spent thousands of dollars on trips to the salon and at-home dyeing kits to hide her gray.

She needed to fix her mane for every big occasion, including her wedding day. Does that sound familiar to you?

Even after giving birth to her son, she almost immediately reached out for a dye job.

Alex refused to be a young mom with gray hair. Then, at the end of that year, a book made her question her previous choices.

She actually ditched social media for a couple of years to focus on living life.

Then, reluctantly, she went to see a hairdresser to discuss growing out her grays. However, she got swayed away from the idea and ended up shelling out another $400 for a dye job.

Needless to say, she regretted that decision and hasn't gone back to the salon.

Instead, she started growing out her grays. At first, she hid her hair under hats. But then, after about five months, she decided to just embrace it.

Now she's back on social media in full force.

She's even joined the "growing out gray hair" movement online. The biggest change in her life is that she now actually loves her natural hair. She's no longer ashamed of it or hiding it.

Nowadays, Alex can't imagine dying her hair ever again.

Instead, she looks forward to having long, silver "mermaid" hair. However, she does regret some things she did in the past, like blowing so much money on expensive trips to the salon for highlights.

Alex feels a lot more beautiful and confident about her looks today.

She believes that her gray hair is simply what she's supposed to have. I guess that kind of self-awareness and acceptance only comes with experience and age.

You can follow Alex's journey with her fabulous gray hair on her Instagram page.

There, she shares all the ups and downs of what it's like to go gray at a young age. I think it's so fantastic, especially for anyone who's struggling with this issue, too.

I've got to admit something to you — I've started showing some gray hairs for a few years now.

It wasn't easy for me and still isn't. In fact, I got some headbands to get me through the awkward growing out stage.

Just like Alex, I used to color my hair a lot.

But a few years ago, I got fed up. My scalp got so dry and irritated that I had to stop. And I switched to all-natural hair care instead of using chemicals.

I even looked for all-natural hair coloring products, and to my surprise, I didn't find any.

So I ditched the dye for good. Now, I'm slowly starting to make peace with my gray hair. And I'm thankful to people like Alex.

She and people like her are normalizing gray strands no matter what a person's age is.

Many young people end up going gray much earlier. There is no reason to make them feel weird about it. Do you get what I'm saying?

It's also so wonderful that there is now a community to reach out to for support.

I've got to say I'm really impressed by this awesome lady.
