Cat Causes Three-Hour Commuter Train Delay By Sitting On Top And Refusing To Move

As any cat owner can attest, when cats sit on you, you're not allowed to move. That's just the rule. Believe me, I've had my bladder well and truly tested by many a cozy kitty.

And as it turns out, the rule appears to apply to trains as well, as passengers on a commuter train in Britain recently discovered.

About 30 minutes before a London-to-Manchester run was due to depart the city's Euston station, the feline was spotted perched on top of the train.

Thankfully, it was well before leaving, so the station workers would have a chance to remove the terrified cat.

However, that proved much trickier than it might seem, as the train is powered by 25,000 volt lines that run just overtop of the train. And, of course, the cat didn't want to go anywhere.

As workers tried to coax the cat down, passengers were transferred to a different train.

And it's a good thing they did, because the cat resisted all calls and cajoles for a good two and half hours.

Only when workers moved a bin beside the train to a spot where the cat would have an easier time getting down did it decide it had had enough.

Just how the cat ended up on top of the train remains a msytery.

But station workers reportedly described the cat as "swaggering off" after its ordeal.

"We often have to deal with birds inside the station but in all my time here this is the first train surfing cat!" said Joe Hendry, Network Rail's station manager for Euston.

"Thankfully curiosity didn’t kill this cat and we're glad it avoided using up one of its nine lives thanks to the swift action of the station team and Avanti West Coast staff who organised for passengers to get onto a different train for the rescue to take place."
