Country Star Darius Rucker Has Raised Over $2 Million For St. Jude Children's Hospital

There's so much bad news out there in the world right now, so how about a shot of some genuine good vibes?

Country star and Hootie & the Blowfish lead singer, Darius Rucker has recently announced that he's surpassed $2 million raised for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The milestone coincided with the 10th annual "Darius & Friends" benefit concert, golf tournament, and silent auction.

In fact, the 2019 event blew previous years out of the water, raising more than $425,000 of that $2 million all on its own.

The event takes place right before the Country Music Awards and is seen as an unofficial start to those festivities.

Because so many country stars are in town for the awards, the event has tons of featured guests and sometimes surprise ones too.

Rucker has wanted to help the hospital since his first visit.

"I was struck on that first visit by how St. Jude not only cares for their patients, but also their patients’ families," he says, "They believe that a financial burden is the last thing a family should face when their focus needs to be on helping a kid get better, and St. Jude makes sure that their patients never pay a dime."

And he plans to keep on hitting new milestones.

"It’s an honor for us to be able to help them continue such an important mission," he said.
