Make A Magical, Color-Changing Cocktail Thanks To A TikTok Hack

Does your go-to gin and tonic recipe do tricks? No? Well, that's embarrassing.

Let's fix that. TikTok user @spiritedla has a recipe for a magical, color-changing gin and tonic that will knock your socks off. Grab your cocktail supplies and get ready to make a delicious summer cocktail!

Get ready for an ethereal experience.

This is Hannah Chamberlain, aka SpirtedLA. She's something of a cocktail master on social media.

She and that bottle of Empress gin are the focus of today's hack, and boy is this one cool.

We're going to be making a gin and tonic today.

You'll need some Empress gin (this one is very important), some freshly squeezed lime, grapefruit, tonic water, a glass, and a huge sphere of ice (the huge sphere optional).

Empress gin is the key to the whole color-changing element.

Instead of using regular, boring gin, we're using fun, purple gin! According to Hannah, the color comes from one of the gin's main ingredients: butterfly pea blossoms!

Add 2 ounces of gin to your glass.

Then, it's time for some squeezing. Grab your lime and squeeze half an ounce of lime into your vessel of choice. Don't squeeze it directly into the gin, or you'll miss the magic!

Time for magic.

Check out that color change!

According to Hannah, "The acid in the lime changes the color of the gin."

Now, this is the kind of science I would have excelled at.

Next up, some flavor.

We've got gin and a nice bite of lime, but we need something else, right? Hannah added half an ounce of grapefruit liqueur for a little somethin' somethin'.

Then, finish with tonic and garnish!

You'll need a slice of grapefruit and a freshly-spanked mint leaf to top off your delicious summer gin & tonic, complete with color-changing magic! I'm more of a sweet drink girl, but that looks good.

Yes, I ALSO have questions about the mint.

People on TikTok had some questions about why Hannah chose to "spank" the mint (aka, slap it against her hand). I assume it's to release some of the mint's strong aroma for your sipping pleasure, but Hannah's answer works, too.

Would you try out this drink?

I personally love the little flair of the color change, so I'd totally try this out! If you do, let me know how good the cocktail is. Happy sipping!
