'Cake Boss' Buddy Valastro Shares Update After 5th Surgery Following Horrifying Accident

There's very little in the world that's scarier than having one accident or incident put your entire career's future up in jeopardy! Cake Boss Buddy Valastro knows that incredibly well after suffering a terrible injury to his hand in November of last year.

While making an appearance on Rachael Ray's talk show, Buddy gave fans a much-welcome update on his healing process, and you might be moved to make your own cake in celebration!

Everybody should know Buddy Valastro.

He's the Cake Boss after all! Buddy's skill for cake baking and decorating has made him a household name with multiple TV shows under his belt and a super successful bakery.

As you might imagine, the use of your hands is pretty important for a cake decorator!

In November of 2020, Buddy was involved in a pretty horrifying accident.

Buddy's hand became impaled in the reality star's at-home bowling alley after which Buddy's sons had to work to free him.

It was a pretty harrowing event, and the healing process has been understandably lengthy!

Buddy has shared a handful of updates over the months on his healing process.

"Well, I'm feeling good, you know, I feel like I'm in good spirits trying to look at the glass half full versus half empty," he told ET last last year.

At the time, Buddy was unsure of what the healing process would look like.

"I'm, you know, just trying to recover and get all my strength back and see exactly what the full extent of everything is gonna wind up being, you know, because it's still a little unforeseen."

"But the positives, I still have my hand right. I could've lost fingers and could've went through my wrist and been a lot worse. So, I'm taking it day by day and cake by cake."

"Right now, realistically, you know, the scars have healed up. It's very, very stiff. I don't really have as much motion, as much strength, dexterity ... So, it's really just a matter of continuing to do rehab. I'd say I'm probably at, like, 10 or 15 percent of the strength that I used to have..."

"It's just really gonna be a matter of time to see exactly what comes back with the nerve too," Buddy continued.

"Honestly, I don't know how much I'm going to be able to do," he revealed. "I can assure you and everybody -- again, whether I have to do a left-handed, a thirty percent -- I'm going to try to do it with all of my heart. I just don't know, you know, I might be like a boxer who's got the heart but ain't got the tools anymore and hope to God that that's not the case and only time will tell."

Buddy has given fans a much-welcome update on how his recovery is going while speaking to Rachael Ray.

Appearing on the show to give Rachael tips on a great technique for cake piping, Buddy said, "I'm feeling good. My hand is coming along. I had my fifth surgery about a month ago." Buddy called the surgery a "huge success."

Buddy gave an update on his mobility that fans were relieved to hear!

"Now I definitely have a lot more of my mobility back, so I can make a whole fist, I can make all my fingers straight, and I've got about 75% of my strength back," Buddy went on.

We couldn't be happier to hear this for Buddy!

Fans are equally as excited.

"So happy to see you grab that icing bag and get it done...it was beautiful!" one fan wrote on Instagram.

"God bless you, Buddy! I’m so glad and happy to see you better!"

"Remarkable hand movement. God bless," said one fan.

"God bless you @buddyvalastro I am very happy to see the recovery with your hand!!!" one fan shared, while another wrote "So happy to see Buddy doing so great! Much love!"
