TikTok is big on thrift and Ikea flipping, of course. User @sovehome decided to turn a standard shoe cabinet into a mini, trendy masterpiece, and the results have me wanting to hit up the hardware store. Let's check it out!
This is Ikea's BISSA shoe cabinet. It's one of their most affordable units at $29.99, and it's a godsend for small spaces! @sovehome decided to upcycle it into something more in line with their style.
It'll make your life a LOT easier. User @sovehome took the doors off and sanded the unit down, then grabbed a nail gun and some rounded reed from Amazon. Then, they just started nailing.
The reed is nice and bendy, allowing you to make some gorgeous, organic shapes. I love the wave and the loops on this. It's very on-trend!
Sové Home left the divots there, but you don't have to. Grab some wood filler and fill in those little dents if you'd like a more streamlined look.
Adding it hides the white and makes the edges look more finished! It's activated with heat, which is why she's using an iron. You can get some on Amazon.
You definitely don't have to do this step if you're trying it out! You can paint the edges, or even use wood texture contact paper if you don't have access to a saw.
A lot of people on TikTok weren't fans of the stain. Sové Home explained that she likes pieces in a darker tone since it goes better with her decor! You can skip staining if you don't like it, however.
Here's the finished product! I love the fun, swirl texture. It's neat how the stain didn't get into all the crevices, making the texture really stand out.
