Brittany Rae

Peel-and-stick tile is a DIYer's dream. It's great for renters who aren't digging their current floors or backsplashes, and it's perfect for new homeowners who can't afford to lay down new tile!

If you're curious about how it works, look no further: TikTok user Amber Rose (aka @rivera_haus has you covered. Let's see how it works!

Here's what you'll need.

You'll need the tiles, spacers, a heat gun, and vinyl tile grout. Getting grout made for vinyl tiles is incredibly important — regular grout won't work the same way!

Also, here's a heat gun tip.

Heat guns can get pretty pricey. Unless you're a serious crafter, you probably won't use it more than once. Consider this $23 heat gun from Home Depot, or buy a craft heat gun on Amazon. I have this one.

(A hairdryer MIGHT do the trick, too.)

Here's how she applied it:

“So you peel off the backing, you flip it over, and warm up the sticky part. And then once that’s nice and warm, you flip it over, use your 3/16 spacers, and then line it up as perfect [sic] as possible. Press it down, and then reheat it.”

If you need help around the edges, get a box cutter and carefully cut the tiles. Since they're vinyl, they'll be pretty easy to cut! Just watch your fingers, okay?

Time to grout.

Leaving space for grout will make your floors look a lot more custom. Amber went for a bright white, since the laundry room she's doing isn't high traffic.

Admit it: those floors look good.

Amber wiped away the excess dry grout with a damp sponge to reveal an absolutely gorgeous floor. This DIY? Totally worth it.

She bought her tiles from Lowe's.

"To cover 65 sq ft. at $0.89 a tile, it cost $160. And then for the grout, like another $10." She noted that her tiles went on sale after she bought them, and wound up getting them price-matched. She got $19.48 back!

I'm definitely curious about it. I've never tried using it, but I've seen some pink tiles that are calling my name.

Have you used peel-and-stick tile? What did you think of it?
