Woman Slams Bartender For Describing Her As 'Girl By Herself' On Receipt

While bars and clubs aren't always the most dignified places, people do expect to receive general decency and respect upon visiting them.

Which is why one woman was left feeling rather outraged after a bartender decided to describe her as "girl by herself" on her receipt.

But after sharing the news of the employee's "disrespect" on Twitter, the woman has received a mixture of support and criticism from people online.

It all began when the woman decided to go to the bar alone.

That woman headed to Twitter after something on her receipt from the bar irked her. She was upset that the bartender decided to identify her on the printed receipt as "girl by herself."

As @GotMiAAngel expressed in her post, "The description is so disrespectful," adding several crying emojis for good measure.

Some people online shared their own experiences with not-so-flattering descriptions.

"I bought an apartment last year and every page of the contract describes me as 'a married woman, alone,'" this user revealed.

Another shared they were identified as "raspy voice guy", while someone else admitted their worst description came courtesy of a business that called them "lil ugly dude" on the receipt.

A few even related to the experience of simply enjoying a drink at the bar all by yourself.

While it may not feel great to have someone describe you as "girl by herself," perhaps the woman found comfort knowing there were others in her comments sharing that they, too, have been that "girl."

And what's so wrong with having a drink by yourself?

That being said, there were also some people who didn't see what the big deal was.

As one person commented, "Why disrespectful? Seems a simple way to help the waiters identify guests they are serving. How else would you like them to describe you - color of hair, clothes. Only in the US do you get so hung up on all this. We've got bigger issues to be thinking about than this petty one."

Some other users revealed that these kinds of descriptions are commonplace, particularly in the service industry

That way, waiters, waitresses, and indeed even bartenders can keep track of their own customers.

That was simply the identifier she was given on that outing since she was, after all, by herself.

There were even people who felt the woman got off pretty lightly with her descriptor.

"Girl by herself" seems pretty tame compared to the other examples some Twitter users were giving in the comments, or the labels some people came up with for themselves.

"I shudder to think what descriptions might have been used for me were I to be sitting alone in a restaurant." this person wrote. "Fat, old guy talking to himself and pleased he's winning every argument"

Then there were people who were far more interested in the items on her receipt than the name.

Rather than sympathizing with her, some people found the items and their prices on her receipt to be the real topic of discussion.

Someone wrote, "DC got cheap drinks. 1 margarita in Atlanta $16 Loudly" and another said, "I want to know what’s under your thumb. $16 for some kind of tacos and then $28 for who knows what."

Let us know what you think of this woman's "problem" in the comments and if you think her outrage is warranted.
