Twitter Drags Sarah Paulson For Wearing Fat Suit In New Role: 'Hire A Fat Actor'

We all know how important representation is in the media. Being able to see yourself accurately reflected back at you through the media you consume is incredibly important to being able to love and accept yourself for who you are.

That's why when people feel that representation is being done wrong, they're quick to speak up and out about what they believe in.

Let's get one thing out of the way: Hollywood has never portrayed fat people in a nice way.

More often than not, they are at the receiving end of terrible jokes and awful comments.

It's everywhere from cartoons for children to live-action movies.

Time and time again, even for more sensitive stories, instead of hiring an actor better suited for the role, a skinny actor is hired and simply placed in a fat suit.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Shallow Hal anyone?

Next on the list in that kind of content is Sarah Paulson. And fans are NOT happy about it.

Actress Sarah Paulson's first photos from her new role in *American Crime Story* have gone viral.

Sarah will be portraying Linda Tripp, a former White House employee who was a key figure in the impeachment of President Bill Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

The first photos of Sarah in the role show that Sarah will be wearing a fat suit for the part.

Fans on Twitter are calling out the concept of having a thin actor wear a fat suit as "dehumanizing" for plus-sized people.

"It takes away the role from an actual plus size actress. If they wanna hire Sarah Paulson they should have her gain weight if they want to be true to the person or just NOT have her wear a fat suit and be a little bit unrealistic. The fat suit is just offensive," tweeted one fan.

In response to that particular tweet however, another fan offered an alternative point of view.

"Uh no. It’s the directors fault for hiring her, not Sarah’s for doing what she does - acting. And sudden weight gain/loss isn’t healthy." they said.

Many pointed out that there aren't a lot of roles in Hollywood for plus-sized actors and actresses, and casting them with a thin person in a fat suit makes that number even smaller.

"I feel like so much has been said on why actors in fat suits are harmful on so MANY different levels but even at the very basic, surface level... this is one more fat person getting shut out," added one user.

What do you think?

Do you agree that the role should have gone to a fat actress, or that Sarah Paulson could have played the role without the suit? Let us know how you feel about the controversy in the comments below!

Another user tweeted:

"Y'all know I love Sarah Paulson. She's my FAVORITE. But seeing her in a fat suit as Linda Tripp for the new American Crime Story makes me uncomfortable. Why can't they just hire a plus size actress? It's 2021 hire fat actors who are under hired instead of thin ones in fat suits."

Now, we want to hear from you.

What do you think about people's reactions to Paulson's fat suit? Do you think she deserves the backlash or that it's a little too much?
